Ailments galore at Chez Huntley!

Dinky and Baby snuggling Well, what a week or two it has been! The cats are currently the only beings in this house without some kind of affliction.

My eyes had been very irritated for the past couple of weeks so I went to see my optician when they had gotten quite swollen, light sensitive and were causing headaches. I was started on antibiotic eye drops and packed off to the eye casualty department at my local hospital.

I'm told it's some sort of adverse allergic reaction to something. I'm now on steroid eye drops for a week and desperately hoping I've not suddenly developed a severe allergy to cats! Having four of them, that would be quite a big problem but I think I'd look quite fetching in one of those head-to-toe anti-contamination suits!

My poor son, Tom, has always suffered with his ears. He had ear infections for years, two sets of grommets fitted and a burst eardrum all by the age of about eight. Now, after all that time, he has an awful ear infection right in the middle of his exams. These things come at the most inconvenient times!

Next my daughter, Chrissie, was at school performing a dance routine when she fell full force onto her elbow and ended up in hospital with a suspected fracture. Poor love still can't quite straighten her arm due to swelling and is due to perform her choreography in a school show tomorrow night! Wish her luck!

Ok, last but by no means least is our lovely Steve. Dental pain is one of the worst types of pain, isn't it? Well he's got it in abundance! He is on antibiotics to calm things down and now has root canal treatment to look forward to. You can imagine his excitement.

I can't wait to be back on QVC with you and was truly gutted to have to miss a craft show with lovely Leonie because of these silly eyes of mine.

Soooo, things surely can only get better! See you on Saturday.

Love Catherine x

ps: at least the cats are unphased by it all, look at Dinky and Baby snuggling (above left). Adorable!

Aw sorry to hear about your eye problems I hope it isn’t the cats! They are adorable! Like your son I am laid up with an ear infection at the moment after also suffering a burst ear drum some years ago I am now waiting for an appointment with the ENT such is the regularity of my problems:(. Due to the irritation of television and noise in general I have had plenty of time to do some reading . I recently read Deric Longden “Diana’s Story” which you recommended to me – huge thanks for that -it was a really good read which made me laugh and cry all at the same time probably because I could relate to so much of it :( My librarian noticed the book and is a huge lover of his writing so she has recommended lots more of his books to read I currently have “Enough to Make a Cat Laugh” and “The Cat Who Came In From The Cold” waiting for me (after tonight craft show obviously ;) ) Huge thanks again for recommending such thought provoking and enjoyable reading material and I hope all is well with you all health wise soon xx

Try Petal Cleanse which attempts to reduce the level of dander, which is what some people are allergic to (those that have cats!) and vets have plug-ins which can help. Hope you are soon better – lots of Love Caroline (Huggy, Snowfie and Tasha!)

Hi there, Catherine’s mum here. For those of you who have enjoyed Derek Longden’s books I can recommend another author ,called Chris Pascoe, who has written a couple of books about his cats. The first one is called ‘you can take the cat out of Slough ‘ and is absolutely hilarious. I forget the name of the second book ,but you can get it off the net. sincerely Barbara
Hi Catherine ,glad to know you are recovering well love Mum

Hope your daughter gets better soon. I did the same thing in January this year at a shopping centre – ended up in casualty then my arm in a sling for a week. Still gives me pain sometimes but it does get easier.
Love the picture of the cats – they look so strokeable and fluffy.

Hi Catherine, caught u on the craft show today (u looked stunning in the dreamkeeper top!) U will have 2 let us know how u get on with yr eye problem-I’ve had terrible problems with mine for last couple of weeks but have put off going to dr’s in case he said it was an allergic reaction to my cats!!! Some times the old wives tales do have scientific reason’s they’re now discovering and my mum has always sworn by cold tea for sore or tired eyes-worth a shot as it can’t do any harm-I’ve actually used it on my cats eyes and results impressed my vet!A word of warning though-I fell asleep once with cottonwool pads soaked in tea (black obviously)on both eyes, must have moved bcos 1 fell off so when I woke with a jolt I discovered I’d got 1 slightly stained eye!!!lol.plan to search out the books u and yr mum recommended, thank u both. Hope all is better at the “Huntley Hospital”.regards, Jayney, Minstrel,Rolo and Poppet(mother, son & daughter)
