Where do I begin?! I'd never been to Cyprus before and I absolutely loved it! We were blessed with great weather all but one of the days (when we had the most dramatic of storms!), the people were so friendly and it was a mixture of history, activities, partying and lazing in the sun!!
We were staying between Paphos and Coral Bay in the Azia hotel – the hotel was good, it wasn't quite the 5* the website implies and the rooms were really basic but you only sleep there, right? What was wonderful about the hotel were the helpful staff who were a mixture of Cypriot, Polish and Dutch with both concierges being from Yorkshire!
There was also a lovely pool area and rather elegant linen day beds – perfect place for sunset drinks. The hotel was also near a small, peaceful beach where the sea was the wonderful clear green I have ever seen.
We did get out to do things – on the second day we explored the archaeological park of Paphos with the ruins of the Roman city and mosaics dating back to 3AD – absolutely breath-taking.
Then later in the week we, along with a fantastic Swedish lady we met at the beach, Yvonne, went up to the area of Akamas to see the bathing place of Goddess Aphrodite – it is said if you splash the water on your face you will never age so here's hoping!!
We also on that day did the five-mile Aphrodite Trail, taking in the coast path and the neighbouring countryside – as you can see from the photo of me by the tree and the amazing landscape shot, the view is breathtaking but so is the climb, at some points it was very, very steep, not sure I could have done it if I had vertigo!
In the photos you can see me, Stuart and Yvonne in our various activies around the island – one of the surprise shots is that amazing sunset captured on my phone on the way to the gym one night, shame I didn't have my camera with me at the time but at least I managed to capture the essence of it – just beautiful.
