A very special lunch

November 09 011 Hi everyone!

I just had to write and tell you about a very special lunch and a very special gentleman named David.

As many of you will know QVC supports the Breast Cancer Care charity. Every October we have an on air special show dedicated to raising funds for the cause. The generosity people show is always incredibly heart warming.

Sometimes people become very creative and offer donations in exchange for all sorts of things from Dale Franklin's bow tie to a kiss from Charlie Brook! It's often the boys who get lots of attention but this year David evened the score for us girls!

David has been personally affected by breast cancer through close family and work colleagues, some of which sadly lost their battle with the disease, and so wanted to offer a fitting tribute to their memory with a substantial donation.

When he heard that someone called in to offer a donation for lunch with Anthony Heywood it gave him the idea to make a donation for lunch with either myself or Alison Keenan, his two favourite presenters! I was gobsmacked when I discovered a donation of £500 was made in exchange for our time.

Ali wished she could have joined us but had to help out on air due to presenter shortage..the show must go on, 17 hours live every day after all! Clare popped by and as she is another 'Dave fave' he was a very happy man.

November 09 012 In fact he said a perfect day of QVC viewing would be Clare in the morning, Ali in the middle and yours truly to finish off the day. David, you gave all three of us a massive confidence boost with your kind words!!

David's niece, Sarah, accompanied him to QVC for the afternoon. She is a keen crafter so enjoyed our studio tour and had some piccies on the crafting set. What a lovely lass and very clearly proud of her kind uncle.

Our guest of honour is a very talented man having won several trophies for ballroom dance and is also an accomplished musician and guess what, girls?
He is single! The matchmaker in me told him he needs to get out to those ballroom gatherings again as I think he'd have a dance partner in no time at all!

I just hope David and Sarah enjoyed their day with us as much as we at QVC loved having them visit.

David, you're one in a million. Thank you again for your generosity. You are an inspiration. I will never forget the lovely day we all shared and your kindness that made it happen.

Lots of love,

Catherine x

    Hi Heidi,
I’m so pleased you enjoyed reading about our day. I always find I get a little ‘lift’ when I hear of a kindness someone has shown. I hope this has the same effect on everyone who reads it.
Happy Christmas to you & yours,
    Love Catherine x

    Hi Catherine,
Thank you for the lovely day, it was such a pleasure to meet you & clare of course. It was a shame Alison was busy presenting so unable to speak to her. I’m not sure if i rambled a bit at times (possibly star struck!!), you all look as gorgeous off screen as on. It was great to spend the time at QVC and see more of behind the scenes and what goes into getting the shows on air. Thank you to Tina, Sam & Gemma for all their effort to make the day go so well and the goodies myself & sarah received. I have now found the clip of you, alison & julia tap dancing which was brilliant given the short amount of time you rehearsed. Maybe a challenge for next years BCC would be for me to do a waltz or foxtrot with either you clare or julia?? btw, did Dale ever get his legs waxed as he promised if enough money was raised he would do that and post the video on his blog(or has he wimped out, lol!!)
Once again, thank you all for such a lovely day at qvc, it really seems a fantastic place to work. I hope you have a lovely christmas and great new year.
    David xx

    Hi David,
So pleased you and Sarah enjoyed the day. I will pass your comments on to Tina, Gemma and Sam, too.
Don’t be silly, you didn’t ramble at all! It was simply a lovely day.
I will have to collar Dale and ask him about the leg waxing! How hilarious!
Keep up with those creative ideas for fundraising, too. I hope your mention of dancing means you’re going to be slipping on those dancing shoes again and getting out there polishing up your trophy winning moves! A shame to let a talent go to waste and such a great way to make new friends, too.
    Enjoy your white Christmas away!

    Hi Catherine
Keeping you updated as promised. Had results from Vet-not good I’m afraid. They think Lexi dog may have Panceatic problems at the very least(if that’s least?) she has more blood tests tomorrow. That organ plagues my family as you know. Do you ever get the feeling you’ve walked under every ladder, crossed paths with black cats and born Friay 13th?!!!To see her she’s fine running in fields etc infact I was told off yesterday by a couple who told me to keep my dog away from them-good job I hadn’t had results then I woudn’t have been so polite!!
Loved your show last night and can’t wait for your Liz Earle show.
Oh Duw as they say!!!What a week off, so much for relaxing.
    Take Care, speak soon
    Julie xx

    Hi Julie,
I’m really sorry to hear the latest but I am glad to hear she is still running around and getting some joy out of life. I guess they just get on with it as they don’t know any different and it’s us who are most upset by them being unwell.
Try and see if you can still get a little more relaxation into your week. I ordered a L’Occitane one time only a couple of days ago (well, Steve did as I asked him to live on air – he is armed with my membership details for this kind of ’emergency’!) and can’t wait for it to arrive so I can have a long soak in uplifting verbena. Rest & recharge. I highly recommend the sanctuary of a hot bath with lovely goodies to give you a bit of you time back.
Keep well Julie, thinking of you & your lovely doggie.
    Love Catherine x
