A trip down memory lane and Competition Time!

Letter from QVCHello! Hope you've had a good week.

It's been another busy time at QVC and likewise at home! For what seems like forever we've been sorting through the house, clearing, making a mess, tidying, recycling and deciding if we really need what's been tucked away in a box under the stairs for the last eleven years!

I've also been ploughing through the filing cabinet and shredding endlessly – and look at what I came across! My letter from QVC from all those years ago – offering me the chance to train as a new presenter!

'Dear Charlie, I'm pleased to confirm you have been invited to attend the 4 weeks presenter training audition, and possibly join mainstream QVC beyond.' The headed note paper is so nostalgic. It was also the 'branding' used on air with the sung jingle!

Signed Sooty picturesSo, here we are over 12 years later! In some ways it seems a long long time ago, in other ways it feels like yesterday. I remember my first show vividly. It was a Monday morning, 9am and the show was a jewellery outlet… It went by in a flash!

I've put the letter back in the filing cabinet!

We promised you last week the chance to win one of three signed Sooty photos (pictured above)! To enter, simply post a comment recalling your favourite Sooty memory and we'll pop you into the draw. We'll announce the three winners next week and with the photo we'll pop a few QVC goodies into the post to you!

Bi-colour quartz Twitter competition prizeThere's also another competition running until around the middle of April. This is a lot of fun and is part of my Destination Gems show. The prize is these three beautifully cut bi-colour quartz.

To enter, simply tweet me a photo of you wearing your favourite piece of QVC jewellery. My twitter address is @mecharliebrook. All the terms and conditions can be found here! Good luck!

My next Destination Gems show is this Tuesday 26th at 8pm. We focus on one of the worlds largest gem fairs when we reveal some of the latest designs. It's a really exciting line-up – all will be revealed in the show. There are a number of stones that we don't see very often which I'm really excited about!

Good luck with the competitions!

Take care and see you soon.

Charlie x

Ps. I'm launching the wonderful Honora TSV this Monday 25th at midnight… Ralph is back!

Hi Charlie, Sooty brings back all sorts of memories, it was all good, clean fun for children (and some adults) back then. Okay by clean I don’t mean there wasn’t any dirty business like water pistols, getting hit, joking around, pie throwing. It was like slapstick comedy for youngsters!
One of my fave eps was the one where Sooty played Sherlock Holmes guess it was foreshadowing, preparing us, most of us, me, for the new Sherlock on TV. Didn’t think children’s TV could be so influential.
Hmm, wondering which piece of QVC jewellery to wear and take a pic of this time round, still can’t get enough Tanzanite though, I love it!
Hey was also wondering, you get more tweets on Twitter than comments on your blog?! xxx

Hi Charlie, I LOVED seeing you with Sooty & Sweep on QVC last week, you all really made me laugh and cheered me up so much! Sweep is my hero! My favourite Sooty/Sweep memory is when Sweep was asked to sort some things out for a car boot sale and he came back with a big pile of cars and boots as he thought that was all they sold!! Please enter me into the prize draw – I would love to win a signed photo! Thank you! x

Definitely a Sweep fan – he always came off worse in the waterpistol fights, although Matthew used to get a soaking too. If they ever bring it back, you would be an ideal presenter! Now if you could just find something from Spotty Dog from the Woodentops, my childhood would all come flooding back!

It`s amazing how sooty has endured and evolved over time.I can remember Harry Corbett ,who put up with being drenched nearly every week. Loved it when Matthew went away for the night ,and was not missed one little bit.
We still show DVD`s of Sooty at our school and the children love it!

Hi, best Sooty and Sweep memory for me is taking my 4 year old daughter to see them live in a local theatre. It was a surprise for her birthday and she had no idea what was going on, can still picture the excitement on her face when she realised. Now twenty nine years later Sooty, Sweep, Soo and the rosette she got on the day are still safely in her possesion. Think a signed photo to go with them would be lovely.

    Hi Charlie.
Hope I didn’t give too much of a scare with the mug shot of yours truly !!.
Bella is off to the vets for an assessment on her treatment on Thursday as she’s finished her course and I must admit she isn’t as happy as she was, so we’ll see what they say.
I have a couple of other photo’s of her with 2 new additions of charlie bears. I was given ” Debbie” and would you believe ” Ragsy”. [ all in excellent condition]. I must admit your daughter is very talented with her design. I’ll wait until after the Easter break to send them on to you.
Hope you have a great break with the children…Happy Easter.
Love Debby and a big whoof from Bella.x

    Dear Charlie,
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your battle to gain control of the ‘Steiff’ show, while Sooty and Sweep created mayhem. It was a delight to see and made my day. Charlie you never fail to make me smile.
My favourite Sooty memory would have to be when Sooty ordered thousands of empty cardboard boxes to sell in their shop. Sooty and friends then spent the rest of the episode trying to hide the empty boxes from an angry Matthew.
Now, lots of cardboard boxes always remind me of Sooty and friends, especially when I receive a nice collection of them from the postman after a ‘Charlie Bears’ or ‘Steiff’ show on QVC. I have always had a love for bears and I am pretty certain that Sooty started it. I have such a vast collection of bears from a variety of different collections, but Sooty is just something extra special!

Hi Charlie, the Steiff show you did with Sooty & Sweep was so funny, it really made me laugh. I would love to buy the Steiff Sweep for my girlfriend as she loves Sweep! My favourite Sooty memory is the wedding of Sooty & Soo with Sweep as the Minister! Thank you.
