A spooky drive home…

An owl in flight Hi there,

As it's almost Halloween, I thought I'd share a scary story with you. It's not really a Halloween story, but it is spooky nonetheless!

I was with some friends from the BBC and we were driving home from a night out in Evesham. We were driving through the dark lanes and started talking about ghost stories and really giving each other the creeps.

Then someone mentioned how the area we were driving through was known for having lots of ley lines and how these lines can attract very good and also very bad energy. By this point we were all so spooked and had pretty much freaked each other out, when out of the blue a huge bird (probably an owl) came flying straight at the windscreen.

John, who was driving, slammed on the brakes. Joan and Marie were screaming at the top of their lungs and I remember just being stunned into silence, I was so afraid.

The car stalled and it took several attempts to get it going again. It must have only been seconds but it felt like hours, and we were all shivering, shaking and praying under our breath.

The rest of the journey passed in complete silence and we've never really spoken about the incident. Looking back it was such a co-incidence, but very scary all the same.

I haven't got any plans for Halloween, but I'd love to try some pumpkin pie. Does anyone have a good recipe I could try out?

Love,
Craig. x.

Hi Craig – great story, thanks for sharing it with us!
Although I’m English, I was raised in the US and, we had pumpkin pie every year at Thanksgiving – I still make it today for my family, even though they don’t much like it!
You really need to get hold of some Libby’s Pumpkin, sold in a can – I have to import it from the US, but maybe you can find it at a deli somewhere.
The following is Libby’s own recipe, which is always printed on the sleeve on the can:
    •3/4 cup granulated sugar
    •1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    •1/2 teaspoon salt
    •1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
    •1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
    •2 large eggs
    •1 can (15 oz.) LIBBY’S® 100% Pure Pumpkin
    •1 can (12 fl. oz.) NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Evaporated Milk
    •1 unbaked 9-inch (4-cup volume) deep-dish pie shell
    •Whipped cream (optional)
MIX sugar, cinnamon, salt, ginger and cloves in small bowl. Beat eggs in large bowl. Stir in pumpkin and sugar-spice mixture. Gradually stir in evaporated milk.
    POUR into pie shell.
BAKE in preheated 425° F oven for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350° F; bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until knife inserted near center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack for 2 hours. Serve immediately or refrigerate. Top with whipped cream before serving.
It’s delicious – hope you manage to make it, and enjoy it!
    All the best,
    Helana
