A sparkling affair

18

After being up to my neck in furniture and moving boxes all week, it was lovely to put on a pretty dress and sparkly Butler & Wilson jewellery to attend the celebration of 45 years of Butler & Wilson, hosted by RBS bank in the city.

Simon never does anything by halves, so the room looked beautiful for his presentation on the history and inspiration behind the brand, while we all enjoyed afternoon tea.

I then hosted a short interview with him about his 19 years at QVC, before we all adjourned for champagne and canapés on a roof terrace with views of the city skyline… all very civilised I must say.

As always, it was a pleasure to meet so many QVC customers who were
all bedecked in B & W. There were several snake necklaces in the room and I may have mentioned the forthcoming snake bangle, that I have been wearing on-air lately, to the ladies wearing them. Here's a closer look…

The Art Deco necklace (303426) will feature in Friday's Vintage show and the snake bangle (303436) will be part of the fabulously glamorous Couture show next Sunday at 7pm. As well as the three evening shows with me, watch out for the daytime jewellery and B & W World accessories shows.

I should also mention that everything is on 3 Easy Pay for the three day anniversary. Also WATCH THIS SPACE next week when we will be running a competition to win something large and sparkly from Butler & Wilson that is not currently available to buy on QVC!!!

Milo in the bagIt would appear that Butler & Wilson also have a fan in Sophie's cat Milo – or maybe he was searching for his brother Wilfie. Daniel and Wilfie's move went very smoothly on Tuesday and I'm pleased to say we left them, after going to dinner at his local pub, with a flat that looked very homely.

His dad had put up a shelf for the cook's essentials pans so they are out on show and his Lock & Lock arrived Tuesday morning too, along with my new HP wireless printer so that Dan could have our old one.

It did feel strange coming home to a house that Dan and Wilfie no longer lived in, so it was a good job that Sophie was on hand for a hug and to mop up the tears and soften the blow. Milo needs to do his job too with purrs and cuddles as I am missing Wilfie, who had been part of my life since Sophie rescued the two brothers when they were five weeks old. Here's a pic of little Wilfie then and now…

Speaking of Milo, he was in my bad books on Wednesday night when I got home to find a note on the front door saying 'SORRY JULIA!!' The little monkey had chewed right through my mobile phone charger cable. So for anyone who has been unable to reach me on my mobile … blame Milo!

I hope you can join me for a QVC Selection at 4pm and Fashion on Friday at 5pm later today and, of course, for the Butler & Wilson Anniversary next weekend.

 Much love

Julia xx

P.S. Tonight's TSV is Revitalash… it's a shame I'm not on with Natalia, to flutter my long lashes thanks to Revitalash. Plus, I've also been using the Revitabrow and now no longer need eyebrow pencil!!!

Hi julia, what lovely photos of the cats!! All of them. But I can understand you missing Wilfy after hand rearing him. But what a lot you have going on in your life. Great to hear of the party with simon, looked like a great time was had by all, and I will certainly look forward to the shows this week.
Been a busy week on our household, we had my cousin come to stay which was lovely. Then I got to go and see my mum who sadly had had a fall last week and ended up with 4 stitches In her head! She is 90 in November and just not great these days. It was great to get out even though it was only for about an hour, but feel I am making progress!!
Sending you much love julia xxx

    Hi Julia,
I’m glad to hear that you had a lovely B&W evening. I know you and Simon are really good friends and it must have been nice to spend an evening with him and to enjoy his lovely jewellery.
Hand on heart, I adore the snake bangle! Watching your presentation, I was “yes” to the grey but my favourite is the clear one. It’s gorgeous – if I did buy it, I could be in danger of staring at my wrist all the time but hey, what’s the harm?! I look forward to the shows..
It must have been heart-wrenching helping Daniel move out and into his own place. I don’t believe in platitudes so will just say as a reminder, you’re a great mum and you’re a close family. It sounds like he’s settling in and to have his ‘buddy’ Wilfie there too will ensure he gets a great welcome when he returns home! You’ve done a sterling job with Wilfie and if Wilfie ever needed a new home and I could persuade my other half to get another cat, I’d be first in the queue!
Mmm, yes Milo has been a bit over-enthusiastic with chewing things! I’m sure you couldn’t tell him off – he does look very cute! How great that your Sophie ensured these brothers have been given loving homes.
You take care and I’m sending you a hug,
    Beth XXX

    Hi Julia,
I’ve just been looking at the forthcoming pieces of Butler and Wilson jewellery and they are absolutely stunning. I can’t wait to see the shows that will be featuring these. I love everything Art Deco. I have a couple of Simon’s pieces and always get complements whenever I wear them. One of my favourites is the Owl brooch set with multi colour marquise cut crystals. It is so sparkly and always catches the light even on a dull day.I was hoping to get the Welsh Flag pin but alas it sold out!!
The photo’s of the cats are adoreable. My cat used to get up to no end of mischief to. You just knew you were in for it when the ears went down and the tail started swishing, then she would pounce!
Well the time has flown again and I should head off to “beddie-byes!” Nos da, take care.
    Best wishes, Tina (S.Wales.)

Hi Julia I love QVC been a customer since nearly the beginning. I also love the black wedge toe post sandals you wear nearly every time I tune in and see you wearing them . Would it be possible to let me know what make they are?

Hi Julia, I too am a massive fan of Butler and Wilson, but I have often wondered who the name Butler refers to, can you enlighten me, thank you

    Hi Julia,
Sounds as if you had a great time with Simon, the two photos show some beautiful colours. Lucky you.
Love the photo with Sophie’s cat in the bag, yes I expect he was waiting to pounce. Hope Wilfie has settled in his new home. I bet you miss him. Oh dear naughty Milo, I guess he was missing Wilfie so got up to mischief.
Have sent you what I mentioned in my last reply to your blog, hope you get it.
    Love Jean XX

    Hi Julia
There are a lot of very lucky ladies and gents, may I add, who are invited to attend the various events be it jewellery, beauty etc. Sounds like it was a very glamorous affair indeed, only wish I wore more jewellery, but Simon’s jewellery is far too glamorous for me and it’s very rare that I wear necklaces. I tend to make myself something, only the other weekend we were off out and I couldn’t find any earrings, so got my trusty tool kit out, S/S shepherd hooks and made a pair of drop pearl earrings in burgundy to match my top…all in the space of a couple of minutes!
Glad to hear that Daniel’s move with Wilfie went smoothly and I see Milo is leaving his mark already…you can’t be angry for long. Bobby decided that he didn’t want to face the rain at the weekend and decided to tinkle on the pile of washing I was about to put in the machine, the little devil, first time he’s done that! Mind you, he had been a good boy at the Vet having his rabies jab in readiness for his hols…perhaps he was getting his own back!
We had a real mix of vintage and new windows in out old house that had the scroll catches, which like yours were badly fitting, but the old windows had secondary glazing which you had to lift up and slide the pane to get it out, so pretty secure.
Forgot to tell you last time that my hair is still falling out and my once lovely bob became very wispy so I took the decision to have it cut dead short, which did upset me, but it looks a bit thicker for doing so and I am currently trying last months pick of the month, so hopefully with the extended MBG I should be able to see what results I get.
I’ve also had to have an X-Ray on my spine, it’s been clicking and moving in bed and had terrible pain right up the middle of the spine for days. Hoping it’s not the beginning of what Mum had, curvature of the spine, she was in a lot of pain in her later years. However, the Dr was very impressed that I could touch the floor with the palm of my hands, all thanks to AeroPilates, I told her, although not done it for a few days now.

    Hi Diane
Hope your mum is feeling a bit better after her fall – 90 is some age! My mum is 88 next week so not far behind. I’m pleased you were able to visit her – good for her and for you.
It has been another busy week for me …… I finally found the time to do some writing and I’m thrilled to say I finished writing my novel on Monday. Obviously I will have some tweaks to make but I have a real sense of achievement as it is something I have wanted to do for a long time. I just hope people will like it.
We visited Daniel on Saturday evening for a curry night and he seems to have settled in really well, as does Wilfie although I think Wilfie is missing the garden. I can’t believe they’ve only been gone for just over a week.

    Hi Beth
I wonder if you have been tempted by the snake bangle yet? For a big bangle it’s not too cumbersome on the wrist. I’m really looking forward to the shows with Simon over the next three days.
Thanks for your kind words about Daniel. I can’t pretend I don’t miss him but I believe that this is the start of a new phase in his life and I just want both my children to be happy.
Milo is very cute and is helping to ease the blow of losing Wilfie. I think he may have been the runt of the litter cos he is really small and yet he has an enormous appetite. He is a little tinker though. If he manages to push his way into their food cupboard he picks up the bag of treats and tries to run away with them! As you say I find it very difficult to tell him off.
    Thanks for the hug
    Love

    Hi Tina
What a shame you missed out on the Welsh pin … Very apt for the Commonwealth Games. I ended up watching a lot more of it than I expected to, particularly the swimming and the athletics. We watched the relay finals at Daniel’s last Saturday – very exciting.
I think you are going to love the B & W Vintage show at 7pm Friday … Lots of Art Deco inspired pieces, with earrings to match the necklace I have been wearing and a bracelet that compliments them both too… maybe you shouldn’t watch?!?!?

    Hi Kathleen
So pleased to hear you love QVC and that you have been watching for such a long time.
I really struggle to find comfortable shoes that I can walk in because of various issues ( not least my polio) so I tend to revert back to those old toe post sandals because I can cope with them. They are very old but were from Aldo I think.

    Hello Glenis
The Butler in Butler and Wilson is Simon’s former business partner Nicky Butler. He left the company to go and live in America years ago.
    Hope that helps?
    Enjoy the anniversary shows

    Hello Jean
Yes it really was a lovely ‘do’ and I’m pleased Sophie was able to make it for cocktails. We had an interesting trip back on the train (crowded at 10 pm!) and were chatting to American tourists, charity workers and folk who were slightly tipsy ….. all part of life’s rich tapestry!
I am looking forward to receiving my surprise – hopefully it will be there when I get into work tonight for the Vercella Vita TSV launch.

    Hi Carole
Good to hear you liked the Yankee TSV – something a bit different.
I’m not doing all the shows with Simon but I am doing all the evening shows, Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 6pm and Sunday at 7pm … hope you’ll be watching.
Wilfie seems to ave settled in well with Daniel but I think he misses the garden. Daniel has a communal garden but he is only about 100 yards from quite a busy main road so doesn’t want to let him out.
    Enjoy the sparkle
    Love

    Hi Annette
I’m sorry to hear that your hair has still been falling out – I really hope the Hairfix will help within the extended money back guarantee. Give it a good trial, 3 times a week, and leave it in if you can.
I am so glad to e ack doing my workouts. I really like some of the newer combination workouts but I have to be careful not to tax the muscles too much as I get cramp easily on my medication.it seems there is always something as we get a bit older!!
Poor old Bobby ….. Poppy occasionally misses the litter tray when she wees so I am very grateful for my H2O steam mop to clear up after her! Milo really is a little cutie and I couldn’t get angry with him even though he chewed through my charger cable. I’m back in business now as the new one arrived on Saturday.
I hope the results of the tests on your back will be reassuring
