A sign of good fortune!

Richard Jackson with his new book My arm feels like it should be in intensive care! I've just spent the past few days signing copies of my 150 Of My Best Ever Gardening Tips book – all 10,000 of them!

To my delight and amazement, we sold all 10,000 copies in 36 minutes on my anniversary shows recently. I'd happily agreed to sign all those sold and never expected to sell out the entire run so quickly!

Apparently, had it been a new book with an ISBN number (I hadn't bothered as I'd self-published the book), it would have been top of The Sunday Times Best Sellers list for a non-fiction hardback for that week, even outselling Jamie Oliver!

Aided by the incredibly efficient Megan Aldridge, who opened all the books on the right page and then boxed them up again, I finished signing the last of the 10,000 books on Friday. During this marathon signing session,I discovered why Jennifer Lopez prefers to sign her name J-Lo and that a biro has enough ink to sign 2,500 books!

Back home at the weekend, I was pleased to see that the recent rain has really boosted the garden. My cut flower garden is coming on a treat now and I was very pleased to be able to cut some white antirrhinum, pink Queen of Sweden roses (they've done extraordinarily well since they were only planted in February – I know I'm biased but Flower Power has really helped them romp away) and the beautiful lacy white-flowered Amni majus. The dahlias are beginning to bulk out as are the zinnias, so this area should be a riot of colour soon. I can't wait!

Happy gardening

Hello Richard. After this week passing my guest audition for the Gator grabber with QVC I thought I would follow you in the things you do. Really well done for selling all the books, I am really pleased for you and hope that the next run does just the same. Keep up the great work. Regards, John.

Wish I’d known about this book; I’ve just bought a house and, after paying someone to tidy the garden up, I am ready to jazz it up a bit and sort out a few problems with the grass and the soil. Will you be signing any more?
