I just thought I’d pop in to say a quick hello before I settle into holiday mode!
I did promise to let you know the results of the All England Dance competition, which many of you may know my thirteen year old daughter Cassidy is involved in. It’s a two year long competition with festivals, heats and semi-finals that are held all over the country. It really does take up quite a lot of time, especially with all the rehearsals. In all honesty, the standard every time just gets higher and higher, and to even make the finals is an achievement in itself.
The finals this year were held at the Hackney Empire, and some of the dancing on display was breath-taking, comparable to anything you would see on a West End stage! In fact, Clare Halse (who is currently playing the lead in 42nd Street) was one of the judges and said she was totally in awe of the level of talent of the children on stage. Anyway, you’ll be pleased to know that Cassidy got a silver medal in the Musical Theatre group section and won gold in the tap group section, which was quite an emotional moment (probably more so for the mum’s than the kids!).
The group was then asked to dance at the All England Gala where Bonnie Langford was in attendance and also commented that the standard was exceptionally high. I would certainly recommend the Gala to anyone who loves dance or has children who go to dancing schools, it really was amazing and so inspiring. I’ll make sure to remind you when the next one comes around in 2019!
Meanwhile, I’ve jetted of to Greece and to the lovely Island of Corfu where there is not a tap shoe or bun net in sight!
Cheerio, I’ll be back soon!
