A new family member on the way – with 4 legs and a wagging tail!

Bed for our new dogHello!

We're buzzing with excitement at home right now. After several years of longing, many discussions and lots of research we are soon to be welcoming a new family member!

I grew up throughout my childhood with a wide and varied collection of family pets. From Molly our English setter (a master in stealing food!) to Joey the budgie and Toffee the rescued Persian cat… the list goes on and on!

We've set our hearts on a Cairn terrier (not pictured!). I wasn't very familiar with the breed at first to be honest. It was my other half who suggested the Cairn. If you're uncertain like I was, I'm sure you'll be familiar with Toto in the Wizard of Oz? Well Toto was a Cairn. They are fabulous dogs and when I mentioned it to Alison Young she was over the moon as she had a Cairn many, many years ago.

As you can see, we've bought the bed (currently and temporarily occupied by our Charlie Bear door stopper!), we're preparing the home, reading up and getting lots of advice on the Cairn terrier (especially helpful is Ali Young… I'll buy her a coffee when I next see her!) We're visiting some Cairns in the next few days, I'll keep you posted!

Back to Molly though, our gorgeous English setter from when I was a little boy. She really was unbelievably clever (albeit wrong!) when it came to eating and taking food. She would eat virtually anything. I can still hear the cry of dismay from Mum when she discovered Molly had eaten my sister's entire birthday cake – just a few hours before the party!

And then the time with the angry fisherman, when Molly had sneaked up and stolen all the bait from his bucket. She came galloping towards us with rag worm dangling from her mouth and looking thoroughly pleased with herself!

Take care and see you soon!

Charlie x

    Hi Charlie
Heard you say on the Amber Discovery show, that you were getting a new dog, and was wondering if you should get 2 or not.
Well we had a afghan hound up till end of August.
But as my mum and dad are getting on abit, they decided to get a Westie cross Cairns, and u said should you be thinking about getting another, well about a month ago, my mum dad got another Cairn Terrier, and they now kept both company, and amuse each other.
While before the Westie cross Cairn, was very jumpy, and was being more a nuisance.

    Hi Charlie.
Congratulations on the patter of tiny paddy paws to your home. I hope she gives you a lot of fun and laughter like Bella has done to our family. Talking of Bella she LOVED ” Santas toys shop” on Saturday. She went mad when the interactive dog came on, unfortunately I was laughing so much I couldn’t get a good picture. I do have a photo of her watching you doing the real pie company [ although it isn’t very good]. I@ll coninue trying.
Hope your doing ” Charlie Bears” on the 5th.
Take care. Love Debby and a big whoof from Bella

Hello Sue, lovely to hear from you. What fabulous names you chose for your Cairns. I must be honest, it’s the biggest discussion in our house right now! I’ve stepped back from the debate and am leaving the others to decide, which I may live to regret!!! I’ll keep you posted!
    Take care

    Hello Charlie
Watched the ‘Diamonds’ show last night and heard you mention your two cairn pups will be arriving next week. How lucky you are ! We are onto our 3rd cairn – Angus. Jock was our first followed by Andy. Each of them were typical cairns (adorable rascals !) but our current pet Angus is really a darling.
Hope you can agree on names…but they MUST be Scottish !!
    Kind regards
    Pat. (Scottish Borders)

Hello Andrea, I really don’t know where the time goes! Our little cairns will be just over 8 weeks when we collect them….. We are counting down the hours and days til the house becomes chaos! Thanks for enjoying QVC.

    After-noon Charlie.
Oh wow 2 puppies comming to your house-hold, be prepared for a chaotic time. Talking of names—Bella choose her name [would you believe it??]. Her original name was to be Lilly, but after a few weeks [ and no response] we were in the kitchen and the local church bells were ringing and she started barking and wagging her tail. Looking a bit puzzled “I said it’s just bells ringing” [ and she barked again].then some-one said “are you Bell-a??” and she jumped up and barked. Hense Bella.
Bella has noticed your ad: for the new web pages [ which she loves]she also loves the christmas ad: too. I hope your 2 won’t be as MAD as mine.
    Take care.
Love debby and Whoof from bella

we have a 5 year old cairn and believe me they will keep you busy!! but they have the most loving nature ,he has been an absoulute joy to be with, can be very stubborn though if he wants to go one way and you the other -well you may not always win!
loves all other dogs ,eats anything in his sight ,digs up the garden,is always on the go,barks at the hoover , makes sure that he gets treats from everyone he meets, but you will forgive him as they have the most adorable faces.

Hello Debby and a whoof to Bella! I love how she earned her name…. How magically random is that! I’m glad Bella likes the QVC promo I filmed. I don’t often get the chance to make them. Although, I’m making another very soon!… All will be revealed!!
    Take care

Hello Mrs Grice and thank you for getting in touch. The personality you describe of your Cairn is exactly why I love the sound of this breed…! We collect our mischievous pair in a few days, we are so excited. We’ve talked about having a dog (now dogs!) for years and now we are lucky to have found two adorable characters!
    Kind regards
