Do you know I've hardly slept a wink this weekend, what with my Michael Buble experience at the O2 and then my daughter Lucy being with me on air yesterday! In case you missed it, it was all part of our Mothers and Daughters feature which we ran online featuring not only members of the cast of Coronation Street, but then some of us here at QVC too.
We wrote about our relationships and then to celebrate, we were given the chance to bring them into work with us! Well my mum felt it was all a little much for her, but Lucy was really keen to come and see what it was like and seriously, what has taken me years to master took her just a matter of minutes, and she was great in our Awaken Silver jewellery show.
Not only did she have her own considered opinion of the various rings and bangles she had chosen, but she showed them off to great effect, never once causing our director Paul to despair by moving them out of shot! I was so proud, and so pleased that you finally got to 'meet' her too Exciting times!
But still ALL to look forward to in just a couple of days time… why?? I hear you ask.
Well, in truth ONLY those of you who've NOT been watching QVC over the last week, or checking us out online would ask that, as Elaine Paige's beautiful face and stunning voice have been featuring heavily on air, and online, in preparation for Wednesday at 5pm when she will be joining me live in the studio for an-hour long show.
'The First Lady of Musical Theatre', who has captivated millions of us with her award-winning lead performances on stage in some of the most monumental musicals ever written, will be singing live in the studio! Maybe if you were every lucky enough to have seen her as Eva Peron in 'Evita', Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, or Edith Piaf in Piaf, you will know how truly outstanding she is.
If like me, you have never been that fortunate, then you'll be delighted to know that we'll have the CD album and DVD for you on Wednesday which has songs from these shows and many more besides. Remember Cats and Chess? Those are two I did see, and Elaine will be bringing in some of the costumes that she's worn in the West End and on Broadway in many of these incredible productions.
We'll be talking about her life over the last 40 years – on stage and off. What it's really like to have to perform 15 songs on stage in a show that runs every night for nearly three hours, cope with costume changes and exhausting dance routines, be nominated for five Laurence Olivier Awards and be awarded an OBE!
Elaine Bickerstaff from Barnet (who didn't really enjoy Stage School initially) became Elaine Paige on Broadway. An icon of the West End Stage, she has performed around the world; a solo artist with more than 20 albums (gold and multi platinum…), who has her own show on BBC Radio 2, will be bringing us a fabulous DVD and CD album to celebrate Elaine Page 'A life on stage' this Wednesday at 5pm.
A whole hour in her company… it's the stuff dreams are made of, so let the show begin…..
Love Ali xx
