A musical star will be joining me this Wednesday

Ali with her daughter Lucy Do you know I've hardly slept a wink this weekend, what with my Michael Buble experience at the O2 and then my daughter Lucy being with me on air yesterday! In case you missed it, it was all part of our Mothers and Daughters feature which we ran online featuring not only members of the cast of  Coronation Street, but then some of us here at QVC too.

We wrote about our relationships and then to  celebrate, we were given the chance to bring them into work with us! Well my mum felt it was all a little much for her, but Lucy was really keen to come and see what it was like and seriously, what has taken me years to master took her just a matter of minutes, and she was great in our Awaken Silver jewellery show.

Not only did she have her own considered opinion of the various rings and bangles she had chosen, but she showed them off to great effect, never once causing our director Paul to despair by moving them out of shot! I was so proud, and so pleased that you finally got to 'meet' her too 🙂 Exciting times!

But still ALL to look forward to in just a couple of days time… why?? I hear you ask.

Well, in truth ONLY those of you who've NOT been watching QVC over the last week, or checking us out online would ask that, as Elaine Paige's beautiful face and stunning voice have been featuring heavily on air, and online, in preparation for Wednesday at 5pm when she will be joining me live in the studio for an-hour long show.

'The First Lady of Musical Theatre', who has captivated millions of us with her award-winning lead performances on stage in some of the most monumental musicals ever written, will be singing live in the studio! Maybe if you were every lucky enough to have seen her as Eva Peron in 'Evita', Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, or Edith Piaf in Piaf,  you will know how truly outstanding she is.

Elaine Paige If like me, you have never been that fortunate, then you'll be delighted to know that we'll have the CD album and DVD for you on Wednesday which has songs from these shows and many more besides. Remember Cats and Chess? Those are two I did see, and Elaine will be bringing in some of the costumes that she's worn in the West End and on Broadway in many of these incredible productions.

We'll be talking about her life over the last 40 years – on stage and off. What it's really like to have to perform 15 songs on stage in a show that runs every night for nearly three hours, cope with costume changes and exhausting dance routines, be nominated for five Laurence Olivier Awards and be awarded an OBE!

Elaine Bickerstaff from Barnet (who didn't really enjoy Stage School initially) became Elaine Paige on Broadway. An icon of the West End Stage, she has performed around the world; a solo artist with more than 20 albums (gold and multi platinum…), who has her own show on BBC Radio 2, will be bringing us a fabulous DVD and CD album to celebrate Elaine Page 'A life on stage' this Wednesday at 5pm.

A whole hour in her company… it's the stuff dreams are made of, so let the show begin…..

Love Ali xx

Hi Alison, Have to say what a real professional your lovely Daughter was on the Awaken Show, you must be very proud of her.
Have just watched you with Elaine Paige – what a wonderful hour. I saw Elaine on a very memorable New Years Eve in Sunset Boulevard and she was sensational. What a lovely insight the hour was into her stage life, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Have to admit I had a lump in my throat with several of the songs Elaine sang, what a voice. Have ordered my CD and DVD and look forward to many hours of happy listening. Have to also add you were a brilliant host on the show, can’t think of anyone better to talk with Elaine Paige.
    Best Wishes to you
    Anne xx

Dear Janet I am very much hoping that the ‘scare’ you write about was just that, and all is calm and you are continuing to improve. Thank you for your lovely comments about Lucy, and I will make sure that I pass them on to her. I think it’s unlikely she’ll be in with me again as it was very much a one off as part of the Mothers and Daughters theme we’d been writing about and featuring on the web page, but yes it was lovely having her with me. Thanks for asking about Sam. He’s not doing too badly. Just had to have an MRI scan for his knee which is causing problems with walking for him, so fingers crossed on the result of that. We’ve got the second University to visit on Monday , and he’s got a conditional place there too, so it rests on his results. Neither are quite as far away as Manchester though, and I truly empathise with you now you say your son is looking to move up there. In all honesty Janet I have found it just as hard as you are, watching them leave. Jack now spends most of his time at his Dad’s which has been really difficult for me as I miss him terribly, and if Sam does get in to Uni, then they will all be gone….The only way I’ve found to deal with it is to ALWAYS keep the line of communication open. Rleationships can survive millions of miles apart, if you can just keep in touch, and I’m sure your lad will be constantly in touch, and also popping back whenever he can for a cuddle and a home cooked meal 🙂 Please take good care of yourself, and I’m sorry It appears as though I’ve only just replied, but my editor’s just checked and neither of the two replies I wrote earlier in the week have been posted, so I can only apologise. Love Ali xx

Anne, thank you for your kind words about Lucy – I’ve told her to check out the blog for herself now :)How I envy you for having seen Elaine Paige in Sunset Boulevard! That must have been fab. She was such fun yesterday, and an absolute star. Really enjoyed my hour and I’m so glad you did too. You’ll love the DVD and CD…especially Cry me a River… I did just listening to it! Have a lovely week, Ali xx

Cheryl, bless you 🙂 It’s funny as so many people have written such lovely things, Lucy has been really touched. She’s never had any desire to work in front of a camera, but I too thought she did brilliantly. And yes, I’m very proud of all three of them 🙂 Love Ali xx

    Dear Ali
Thankyou for your kind reply, no need to apologise.I will keep my fingers crossed for Sams results for his MRI scan.Things appear to have calmed down with my ‘scare’ so I have got everything crossed at the moment! Your advice about keeping the lines of communication is so right. I am so grateful to get a quick phone call, text or even a large bag of washing(which I normaly label ‘toxic waste’. Sorry to hear you don’t see as much of Jack as you would like but I am sure you are always in his heart and thoughts you being such a lovely mum.Look forward to your next blog, take care, love Janet xx

    Hi Alison
Really enjoyed your show with Elaine Paige this week, it’s the first one of the musical guest shows I have seen and I was impressed. I saw you in the Birkenstock show yesterday, you were wearing a lovely top and cropped trousers, is it QVC? I have to get myself organised for summer.
    Best wishes, Wendy xxx

Ali my Auntie has never shut up about the show! She must have enjoyed it! Hope you have a great weekend. Weather is brilliant up here at the moment. Don’t get the chance to say that too often in Scotland!

Hello Dorothy, you’ve made me smile with your comment, as I have to say the same thought went through my mind at the time! She was very natural wasn’t she, which is why it’s odd that she’s never had any desire to work in front of a camera at all. I think standing up in front of a class of children is a jolly sight more daunting personally, and she’s excellent at that too 🙂 Thank as always for asking after Sam, and I’ll keep you in touch with that one. Sorry you missed Elaine Paige, but I think there’s a chance to watch her sing live the two songs she performed for us in the studio if you look at our website… and I too would be dangerous with a memory!! 🙂 love to you, Davy and Laura. x x

Gail, I hadn’t read your comments about Lucy, but have now and am bursting with pride for my girl 🙂 She didn’t seem nervous at all did she, and was really chuffed when the little silver leaf ring I’d promised her turned up this week 🙂 That was her first introduction to ‘serious skincare’ with Elemis and she thought Keely was great. I’m not sure that many of her colleagues saw her on TV, but several of the pupils at school did so she was very chuffed. Hope you are now fully recovered from your rat bite and will enjoy this gorgeous weather we’re currently having. Love to you, ali xx

Hi Wendy, I’m really glad you got to see Elaine. I really enjoyed the hour and she was a joy to work with – fab voice and wicked sense of humour too. Unfortunately the top I was wearing wasn’t mine but have a look at our Print Fusion range, some of Michelle Hope or Eastern Spirit. They’re all quite similar, so I hope that helps a little in getting you organised for summer 🙂 Love Ali x

I am glad to hear that all’s ok Janet, and I hope your son will be home for a longer period of time during the summer. I too love the occasional calls and the nice thing about texts is that you can keep them to read again 🙂 I’ll let you know how Sam gets on and thank you as always for asking. I hope you have a lovely weekend in the sunshine. Love Ali x

Crikey Judith what a cracking idea!!! Can you imagine… I don’t think I’d be the best person to interview him though… Dribbling is not a very attractive trait 🙂 Say hi to your lucy for me, and thanks for writing. Always lovely to hear from you, Love Ali x

Magda, having spoken to Julia just the other day, she told me how she’d managed to rearrange to meet you on the Monday instead of Sunday, and so I have to apologise once again for not being around on that day. I do hope you had a lovely time over here though, and are not too bereft now back in Mallorca. Take care and look forward to hearing from you, Love ali x x
