A mad couple of weeks!

Well hello everyone!

Sorry folks – really meant to blog sooner but as usual it's been a mad couple of weeks. What on earth can I say to all you lovely, encouraging, fabulous and oh-so-kind people, except a massive massive thank you!

Your comments and compliments have truly been amazing, and yes… what with the incredible success of the Zumba launch coupled with your kindness, I have been on cloud nine! (Just out of interest, anyone out there know why we say cloud nine and not some other number?).
Martin, Janet, Julie, Christine, Caz, Jess, Julie (a different one), Isabella, Yvonne, my fellow Scot Morag… and everyone else I haven’t mentioned – a massive thanks to you all for getting in touch and all your very kind (and flattering) words. Good luck to all of you who are now embarking on the Zumba journey, do keep me posted.

I have to apologise for the delay in posting this, but life is a little busier than normal. The girl who helps me out with my brother has gone on maternity leave so it's all a bit more manic at present.

Quite funny really, she was due last Sunday 15th but wanted to work until last Friday. I had a treat of a couple of days at a spa as a gift and Danny said it would be best to take it whilst she was still around. Well on Thursday… you all know what I'm going to say don't you? Just got unpacked and ready to indulge myself in a little pampering, when I get a text saying she'd gone into labour!

Very exciting but on the selfish side of my flawed character I had visions of my bit of 'me-time' going AWOL, but no. Hubby to the rescue for the take-over – sorting out my brother complete with Chinese take-away in hand! And so the neck, back and shoulder massage was able to proceed without any further hiccups. Ahhhh.
By the way she had a beautiful baby girl, whom I've just had the pleasure of being introduced to, and haven't stopped cuddling for the last 3 hours! Am I getting broody? You bet! But obviously for a grandchild – not one of my own!!!

Take care all you lovely people and do stay in touch. I love hearing from you all.

    Hi Anne
Received my Zumba “package” last week but initially I was disappointed as I think I was trying to run before I could walk. I’ve been using it now nearly everyday and am getting better. I think I wanted to be “perfct” straight away! As I said in my last message a few of my friends have been going to classes and the weight’s dropping off them. Any tips/advice would be apreciated.
Glad you got to go to the spa-I feel there’s nothing better than neck/back massage.
I became a Granmother last November and I can tell you Anne it’s the best thing on earth! We saw my beautiful Granddaughter yesterday and despite a cold and teething there was a smile for everyone. It’s lovely to see, they are so innocent and carefree. I’m looking after her for 2 days when my Daughter goes back to work-wish me luck as I’ll also be working part time!
    Take care
    Julie xx

    Hi Anne,
Just finished reading your new post and I’m still so in awe of you! You’re amazing the way you clearly don’t begrudge your role of carer at all. So lovely and commendable. And how sweet and kind of your hubby to take over your brother’s care to allow you your MUCH deserved me-time! He’s clearly a good’n. I’m glad you got it in the end. And a bouncing baby girl – lovely. Congrats. Hope you all settle into your shaken up routine soon.
    ‘See’ you soon.

    Hi Julie,
Great to hear you started your zumba! Well done for pushing through the initial stage. I suppose it’s really like pretty much everything, the more you do it, the better you’ll become. So my lovely, keep at it and see the results. To be honest, I do admire your discipline. Personally I really need the classes aswell as the dvds. If I’m at home, there always seems to be something else to be getting on with. Also I love the company and the laughs you get at a class. My dvds do come in handy for the occasions when the class is just not possible. If you can, I’d say keep going with the dvds because you will see a result even if you feel you’re not that good at it yet, but if there’s a chance you can get to the odd class I’d do that too. That way not only will you get results but you’ll enjoy the journey hopefully a bit more along the way. You may have to try a few classes before you get one that you’re really happy with. So much depends on the instructor. If possible try to find someone who not only has a fitness background but a dance one too.(I’m very lucky with the lovely tignanello guest Carla, but I do have a couple of other teachers who are good too. Both with dance backgrounds)
Congratulations on being a grandmother Julie. I can’t wait! Though I’ll have to probably hang on for a good while yet with my lot!Good luck with the 2 days a week. I bet you’ll love every minute, you lucky lady!!
Stay in touch and let me know how you’re doing.

    Hey Susan.
You’ve no idea how much your comments mean!! In awe of me?!!
Thankyou so much, but I think if you caught me on an off day you might well change your mind my love. Sometimes (like today!) I feel as if I’m spinning around but getting nowhere fast! I can honestly say that I genuinely consider it an honour looking after my big brother. He has always been just the most gentle and kindest person you could meet. We have our moments though the pair of us, but any cross words never last more than a moment.(Wish I could say the same for my hubby and kids sometimes, but hey ho, nobody’s perfect eh?)Yes indeed Susan, I am very lucky with Danny(hubby). He is so good with Edward(my brother). Helps me out no end. And my 3 boys are really good with their uncle too!! I think everybody really pulled together when he had to move down from the family home in Scotland. It’s good sometimes to sit and count your blessings. And this blogging lark really helps me to just that! You’re all such a lovely lot! Take care and hope to hear from you soon

    Hi Martin,
Nice to hear back from you. Glad you’re doing well.
Yes indeed Charlie and I were both in around the same time. We were both selected from the same batch of auditions,I started a couple of months before the boy Charles, but there wasn’t much in it. Well spotted Martin, gosh you’ve been watching a while!!
Take care of yourself, and stay in touch.

    Hi Anne,
Of course I’m in awe of you! I couldn’t at all juggle what you do. Pip is another one – no idea how she does it all! What lovely things to say about your brother and your role. I’m sure you do feel like you’re chasing your tail sometimes…the cross of ‘modern’ life I think, but you do have added complications. Great advice about Zumba and classes too. I love the social occasion from classes too – the craic!
    Have a nice weekend,

    Anne – help!
I’ve been doing four Zumba classes a week for just over five weeks and haven’t lost any weight at all and am getting a bit disheartened. I remember you saying you’d lost well over a stone by doing Zumba for three months so am writing to ask your advice. I already eat healthily so have cut down portion sizes slightly whilst continuing with the Zumba and other cardio classes but no weight gain or change in body tone at all.
I shall continue with the Zumba as, like you, I’m now addicted but I’d get much more of a kick out of it if the weight fell off too.

    Hi Sue,
This is quite a hard one to answer without all the info. I’m glad you love the Zumba classes but sorry to hear you’ve not lost any weight. You’re certainly going regularly enough (4 times a week!).
How much weight do you need/want to lose? As obviously it will take longer if it’s not that much, although I still think you should have lost some. Did you exercise often before starting zumba? Do you always go to the same classes and how challenged do you feel afterwards? If you get a chance to pop me a line answering the above then maybe we can narrow it down to something. Also did you take your measurements before starting? I measured my bust, waist, tummy, hips, thighs and knees. It’s important to not only look at the scales, but your actual size because of muscle weighing more than fat. How do your clothes feel? Get in touch soon my love, as I’m pleased that you enjoy it but don’t want you to get disheartened. We want to see you getting some results. Look forward to hearing from you and keep your chin up.

    Hi Anne,
Well I bit the bullet & got the Zhumba TSV. It arrived on Tuesday & I’ve done the 20 minute workout twice. Its nearly killing me at the moment but I really enjoy doing it. Haven’t ventured any further at the moment with the other DVDs. I find it really easy to follow. Being an ex dancer probably helps.I’m now trying to find a class in my area.
Look what you have started !!

I also wanted to let you know how I am getting on learning Spanish-not very well-the tapes are all well and good but I think I need a teacher to converse with to see where I am going wrong-I wish I had learnt when I was younger-my brain would have been working so much better!–do all your children and hubby speak Italian-God Bless Lorraine x

    Hi Anne
Wanted to say thank you for inspiring me. Saw have fab you look through doing Zumba and how well you did the class. So I took the plunge and not only got the Zumba dvd but signed up to a weight loss plan as well. A few weeks on, I have lost half a stone so far and feel so much fitter and happier. Big thanks to yourself and QVC for showcasing Zumba – that TSV has truly been a life changer 🙂

    Hi Anne,
Not sure if this is the appropriate place for this, but my mum is currently experiencing some hair loss and my nan and mum (also a QVC fan) heard you speak about your experience with on air. My mum is always stressed (and now more so, because of the hair loss), but she wanted to know if you used a particular product or did anything. She’s be really grateful to hear from someone who had been through the same thing and get some advice.

Hey Risa! What can I say? A massive well done!! At the end of the day it’s all down to you. We can showcase whatever and prove that it can work through personal stories but you are the one who has taken the plunge and put in the effort. Great result. Keep it going and also keep me posted with your progress. I agree 100%. It truly is a total life-changer.

    Hi Lorraine,
Great to hear from you again. Regarding the Spanish….. maybe starting a class or some kind of tuition would be a good idea. With my Italian I would say that I broke the back of the grammar with the tapes, so that I could put sentences together but then you definately need the practice. I started lessons once that happened although not that regularly. I did however do alot of studying on my own. Another thing that helps if you’re up for it, is starting to watch Spanish films/programmes etc. If you have difficulty getting a hold of these, what I used to do is watch some of my favourite dvds and selecting the relevant language with the English subtitles. That way you know the story and you’d be surprised at how much you take in without really trying. However ther’s no substitute for actually speaking it so the more opportunity you have to do this the better. I still have an Italian teacher who comes to me most weeks(infact she’s due to arrive shortly). We don’t tend to do structured lessons though. It’s more of coffee and a chat. She rattles on in Italian and lazy me usually chats in English. The kids tend to find it rather annoying if they’re in the vicinity and we’re laughing about something that they can only understand one side of. They usually miss a few good punch lines!! So in answer to your question, do my hubby and the boys speak the lingo? A resounding no!! Very annoying and convenient for hubby when anything goes wrong over there. Tends to fall into my lap as all he can do is smile, say “ciao” and possibly order a beer!! My middle boy Phil (he’s 20) however started to learn with Laura (my teacher) a couple of weeks ago but I think the motivation here is that he is bringing is girlfriend out there shortly and possibly wants to do a bit of showing off! Still every little helps and I am totally encouraging him. I think there’s something great about being able to converse in another language, so keep going for it Lorraine. Stay in touch.

    Hi Rebecca,
So sorry to hear about all the stress you’re all having. Not sure if I can help or not. A long time ago I suffered a little hair loss (way before QVC). I got medication from the doctor and it eventually sorted itself out. I don’t really remember talking about this on air so I am just wondering if possibly it was another presenter who had more of a problem in this area. Anyway the absolute best advice I could give would be to visit the doctor in this case. Sorry I can’t be of more help Rebecca but as wonderful as some of the QVC hair products are, they are no substitute for sound medical advice. Please let me know how you get on.
    Best wishes

You were with Leighton and you were having quite the laugh. I adore your coral nails too. You are super on trend in your brights and over the last few months I’ve noticed how much they suit you!! You look radiant and elegant and glam. Many more words to describe you but I’m sure I’ll think of them in other blogs!

    Hi Anne
How are you? i’ve missed reading your blog – get writing girlXX Seriously i hope things are good and that you and your family(especially your brother) are well. I heard you mention on air that you and your neice had visited a spa recently for a day of pampering – hope you enjoyed it(i am saying that through gritted teeth – not that i’m jealous or anything!! ha ha). How’s the Zumba going? i’m still loving it – even if it didn’t do anything for the figure/weight i’d still do it as it lifts the spirits so much. Glasgow is awash(nothing changes) with rain but we are getting the occasional bright/sunny spell and the temperatures are high(all very confusing?). Your still looking great on air, are you growing your hair?(i like the look). If you can, bring us all up to date on your next blog – i’m looking forward to reading it. Look after yourself Love Linda GlasgowXX

    Hi Anne
We are missing your blogs its been a long time since your last one. I understand your busy and probably don’t have enough time with looking after the many men in your life.
As you enjoying reading I thought I would mention a book I have just read it is called A Nice Cuppa Tea written by Roz Tranfield
it is about her Mothers Journey with Alzheimers. It is not a self help book but is written with such humour. At times it made me laugh out loud then cry my eyes out. The book starts with Lilys early life in Liverpool and names many famous places. As Roz cared for her Mother while running her own beauty salon it was extremely difficult dealing with her Mothers mood swings but she tried desperately to retain her Mothers dignity at all times.
The book is available to download to either pc or kindle which is a shame as it limits the audience and rules out those that are not techno friendly. Roz is donating a percentage of each download direct to the Alzheimers association. I highly recommend the book to anyone male or female and for all carers to see that they are not alone.
Please give us an update on your blog I would love to know how the Zumba is going.

    Hi Anne,
I saw you with Lennie on Sunday for the Nina Leonard fashion and I must say you look AMAZING!!!! I am not generally the one to write on blogs etc but I must just say how fantastic you look. I also bought the Zumba TSV and have become addicted. Having had my baby in January I had a lot of weight to lose and have seen fantastic results with the zumba – it is not just what the scales say, it is how your clothes fit and how you feel. Zumba classes are so much fun, they help me relax after a full day – nobody messes with my Zumba time so my husband knows that at these times the baby is completely his.
You are an inspiration and I am sure many people have lost weight just by seeing you and your enthusiam. All the best.

Your still keeping the weight off – congratulations – are you still Zumbaing? I’m liking the new makeup routine you’ve been using lately – slightly heavier made up eyes are lovely(remember your makeup on your new years day CID cosmetics show – i loved that look on you).Isn’t it fab that Lulu is doing Strictly Come Dancing this year, as a fellow Glaswegian i’m sure, like me,you’ll give her a vote or twox I just hope Brendan is kind to oor lassie,if not he’ll have me and many others to deal with ha ha – poor Brendan if he’s got to contend with us Scots especially Glaswegians eh!
