A Lot Can Happen in a Week!

Thanks so much for all your get well wishes which have obviously worked as I was back on-air at QVC yesterday. Actually, the real reason is that I finished my course of antibiotics on Wednesday night – odd isn’t it that the very thing that was helping prevent infection was making me feel so rotten. Still, as you can see from this photo, lots of enforced time on the sofa, under my slanket and usually one or other of the younger cats (in this case both) has done the trick. I was a bit worried though that I would have nothing to write about on this weeks blog… I couldn’t have been more wrong!

At the end of last week, Sophie left her job – aren’t these flowers lovely?  Two of my favourites, freesias and roses. She is on two weeks ‘garden leave’ until she starts her new job at the beginning of February so decided to make the most of her time off by visiting some friends in the north east. Things didn’t look too promising when she went out to check her oil and screenwash on Saturday afternoon and her car wouldn’t start! Off she went to Halfords with her dad to buy a new battery which was very kindly fitted by the Green Flag man, who also checked her tyre pressure, oil, water, screenwash and fitted her new wiper blades; what a kind man.

So the car was all ready for the long drive but we still didn’t know if she would be going as we woke up to snow on Sunday morning. Fortunately, it was only a light dusting and was already starting to melt by the time she set off at 10am.

On Monday I was still harbouring a faint hope that I might be able to go to the QVC Beauty Bash so I kept my appointment at the local hairdressers. I go there, when I can’t get up to the Aveda Institute in London, because they are an Aveda salon and of course because they do a really good job. I had a surprise when I pushed open the front door and on the counter they had Elemis products. I was telling them about the new Elemis cleansing oil which I have been trying out – it’s GORGEOUS!

I had another pleasant surprise while I was there. It turns out one of the girls, Nicky, has read ‘Life’s a Beach and Then…’ and is currently reading ‘If He Really Loved Me…’. It was a little surreal to be having a conversation about people from my imagination as though they were real – well they are real to me. If you want more information about my books and how to order have a look at my webpage

So, Tuesday was Chris and my 38th anniversary of living together. I had found the perfect card for him as he has a saying (slightly irritating if I’m honest) ‘always has been, always will be.’ Turns out the card was so perfect that he bought me the same one – we did have a laugh!

Anniversary cards

We couldn’t celebrate as I was still poorly and Chris was working but he did buy me the new Adele CD, 25. It was a really thoughtful present. Sophie had shown me a clip on YouTube of Adele being interviewed by James Cordon in a car. It was brilliant, with him singing along to songs with her – if you haven’t seen it you can watch it here.

They did a bit of a song that I didn’t recognise which instantly had me in tears. Sophie and Chris found out that it was on the new album, hence the present. It’s called, All I Ask, and is one of the best songs I’ve heard in ages.

The postman also brought me a nice surprise on Tuesday. I had applied to become a member of the Romantic Novelist’s Association a few weeks ago. As a self-published author, there are certain sales criteria you need to meet and, thanks to those of you who have bought my books, I met them – I’m so chuffed!

Romance Novalist

I had my new crown fitted on Wednesday and got home, after a three hour round trip to the dentist, to another lovely surprise. There was a tweet from the editor of the Windsor magazine with my picture on the front cover of the February edition! I knew I was going to be in the magazine because I had done an interview with her a couple of months ago but I had no idea I was going on the cover. No more hiding from the neighbours now – it gets delivered free to thousands of households in my area – crikey. I’ll try and post the article once it’s out.

Julia Roberts

Well, having missed the Beauty Bash, at least I’m back for Beauty Weekend (always assuming I survive the Lunchtime Show with Jackie Kabler today!) I have Beauty Discovery, with the Perricone TSV, and Philosophy tomorrow at 4 and 5pm respectively, and then an early start for me on Sunday. I’m on at 11am with another Beauty Discovery show, then 3pm Elemis and 4pm, New in Beauty. Hope you will be able to join me to find out about some of the new brands we are bringing you in 2016.

I must dash, but just a reminder that the third series of ‘Spotlight on Jewellery’ starts next Friday at 6pm, directly after Fashion on Friday featuring Together. The main brand will be Frank Usher but I’ll also be launching a new silver brand called, Emozioni … sounds like a perfect range for me as I am such an emotional soul! Watch out for me wearing some pieces this week.

Have a fab weekend, hopefully watching QVC.

Much love

Julia xx

It wasn’t the start to 2016 I was hoping for but much better now. I think I may count the Chinese New Year on February 8th as my new year – Year of the Monkey, like me

Congrats on your Anniversary – what a coincidence on the cards!! I love your flowers freesias are my absolute favourite. Hi Denise
Yes, I really enjoyed the Lunchtime Show with Jackie. I was on with Catherine today, also very enjoyable, and I gave one with Simon Biagi in a couple of weeks.
The flowers were Sophie’s when she left her job but we all enjoyed the beautiful aroma of freesias – one of my favourites too.

Hi Julia, I’ve been watching QVC for many years and remember you when you had short curly hair!! You are still as beautiful now as you were then.

I’m so glad you are feeling better and I am inspired by your positivity. I have had multiple sclerosis for 15 years now and have a few disabilities as a result but I feel incredibly blessed. Life is so short and I personally feel that I need to enjoy every moment no matter what life throws at me. I try to find the blessings in each day. You are a blessing to me – you seem to carry on regardless with your wonderful smile and positive attitude.

I love love love the jewellery shows. I don’t have a jewellery box, I have a jewellery wardrobe and is is a wardrobe! Diamonds are my favourite.

    Keep up the good work.
    God bless

      Hello Ruth
What a kind lady you are, still happy to give compliments despite all the things life has thrown at you. I completely agree with your attitude – we gave to make the best of things even when we sometimes don’t feel like it.
You made me laugh about your jewellery ‘wardrobe’ – I’m so pleased our jewellery shows bring you so much pleasure.
      Keep on with your positivity

Welcome back Julia, So glad to read that you’re feeling better. I don’t work on Fridays (YEH!!) and between tasks and appointments I saw a snippet of the Lunchtime Show – you looked fabulous. We haven’t had any snow but it’s been iron cold with lots of frosty nights that turned into frosty days. So it was a treat when the Sun came out this morning and it felt warm (ish). I love James Corden and he’ll always be Smithy to me, I also think Adele is amazing. Ellie saw her singing at a club in Birmingham in 2007 and said she’d be a star. Elemis and Frank Usher plus a new silver jewellery brand – I’ll never be a rich woman… Love from Jo x

      Hi Joanna
Fabulous description ‘iron cold’ – I may have to steal that for a book.
Glad you caught a big of the Lunchtime Show – I did it again today, this time with Catherine, and I was allowed to do the competition – yay!
Did you watch the Adele/Smithy link? I think it’s brilliant! I now know most of the words to All I Ask!

    Hi Julia,
So pleased to hear you are better. By the photograph the Cat’s thought it was great having you home.

What beautiful flowers, freesias were always my Mum’s favourite, such a beautiful smell. Can’t believe you and Chris got each other the same card, how strange is that, with all the cards there are out there to choose from and you both come up with the same, lovely words, very romantic.

Hope Sophie gets on well with her new job.

It’s not fair we have not had any snow, was looking forward to playing in it with the dogs, they love it, especially snowballs. All we get down here is rain rain rain.

Lovely picture of you on magazine cover, all the neighbours will be wanting you to sign their copy.

Have you been watching Mr Selfridge.?

    Take Care.

    Love Jean xx

      Hello Jean
The cats always love having someone home during the day – I don’t think they are particularly fussed who!
Sophie starts her new job next Monday – she has gone to see her brother in Wales for a couple of days.
The magazine is also available to pick up in Waitrose stores – I won’t be going shopping in February – not that anyone would recognise me without my make-up on!
Yes, I have been watching Mr.Selfridge – still enjoying the show but going off him a bit!

    Hi Julia,
So glad that you are feeling better. We had a nice lunch out on our wedding anniversary. I prefer going out on a lunch time than the evening. How funny that you and Chris chose the same cards! I had a lovely card from hubby. I had a card off him on one occasion that said to my darling husband! He must have had strange looks when he bought it at our local shop! He told them of his mistake when he went in there next. The woman serving told him that he should have taken it back. He told them that he had already written on it and didn’t notice his mistake! What a plonked, lol…
So far the snow has kept away round these parts. Let’s hope it stays that way. We’re looking forward to the RBS Six nations in a fortnight’s time. It only seems like the other day when I said about it. My husband bought me 2 Groggs of the Welsh Team. I’ve got James Hook and Mike Phillips. I’ve asked him to get me one of Dan Bigger next, our player that scores the goals.
Anyway I’ve gone on enough about the rugby enough and probably bored you.
    All the best, Tina.

      Hi Tina
Forgive my ignorance but what are Groggs?
Don’t worry about the rugby chat, I’m just as bad with football!
Glad you enjoyed an anniversary lunch out – the story of your ‘husband’ card did make me smile!
We’ve had very little snow but plenty of rain – nowhere near as much as some people though

        Hi Julia,
Groggs are little ornament’s/ figures, crafted in Treforest, Pontypridd S. Wales. They make all goes from rugby player’s to even one of Freddie Mercury. If you Google World of Groggs you’ll see them. There’s even a museum showing their range of figure’s made. It’s not just the Welsh team you can get figures of. They even do the England team!! There are figures of all the six nation teams and more. Designed, created and crafted in Wales. We hope to visit the shop some time as it’s not that far from where we live.
        All the best Tina.

    Hi Julia
I don’t know, first a calendar girl, now a cover girl. Good on yer as they say!
I had a fab time at the Beauty Bash as ever. It’s such a great event. It was lovely seeing Keeley and I had a nice hand massage with one of her team. There was a sample of the new cleansing oil in my goody bag so I can’t wait to try it.
I was sent the Perricone TSV as part of the Customer Panel. I know, fab or what! It was quite a dilemma for me putting aside my Elemis but I managed it. The products are something special and, if I wasn’t getting such great results from Elemis, I would definitely invest in Perricone.
Loved Beauty weekend although I had to sit on my hands for most of it as I spent too much last month and waiting for my credit card month to tick over!! Should be any day now and then I’ll be off again!
Congratulations to you and Chris on 38 years together. Love the cards you sent to each other.

I’ve been trying out the new Elemis cleansing oil – personally I prefer it to the Elemis cleansing balm which I find a little too aromatic around the eyes!
Does Keeley know you’ve been trying out Perricone??? It is a great brand – quite different from Elemis though!
It was funny Chris and I getting each other the same cards – great minds & all that!

      Hi Essie,
No. He had exactly the same thing at Crystal Palace – the academies don’t seem to keep their websites upto date. Hard to believe he’s been there a year on the 1st of February, which coincidentally is when my daughter starts her new job this year!
His official title is Head of Foundation phase but he also manages the u11’s

Hi Julia, just thought I would let you know I have read all your books. Your book Life’s A Beach and Then was fabulous and have bought If He Really Loved Me also. I am keeping the latest book for our next holiday in April and we have booked a cruise as it will be our 40th wedding Anniversary, where has the time gone. I broke my foot 4 weeks ago and am in plaster, I was quite tempted to read my book then as I did’nt have much to do but I gave it to my husband to put it away to keep for our cruise. The thing I like about your books is that the chapters are nice and short. Keep up the good work. Pat Horgan.
