Thanks so much for all your get well wishes which have obviously worked as I was back on-air at QVC yesterday. Actually, the real reason is that I finished my course of antibiotics on Wednesday night – odd isn’t it that the very thing that was helping prevent infection was making me feel so rotten. Still, as you can see from this photo, lots of enforced time on the sofa, under my slanket and usually one or other of the younger cats (in this case both) has done the trick. I was a bit worried though that I would have nothing to write about on this weeks blog… I couldn’t have been more wrong!
At the end of last week, Sophie left her job – aren’t these flowers lovely? Two of my favourites, freesias and roses. She is on two weeks ‘garden leave’ until she starts her new job at the beginning of February so decided to make the most of her time off by visiting some friends in the north east. Things didn’t look too promising when she went out to check her oil and screenwash on Saturday afternoon and her car wouldn’t start! Off she went to Halfords with her dad to buy a new battery which was very kindly fitted by the Green Flag man, who also checked her tyre pressure, oil, water, screenwash and fitted her new wiper blades; what a kind man.
So the car was all ready for the long drive but we still didn’t know if she would be going as we woke up to snow on Sunday morning. Fortunately, it was only a light dusting and was already starting to melt by the time she set off at 10am.
On Monday I was still harbouring a faint hope that I might be able to go to the QVC Beauty Bash so I kept my appointment at the local hairdressers. I go there, when I can’t get up to the Aveda Institute in London, because they are an Aveda salon and of course because they do a really good job. I had a surprise when I pushed open the front door and on the counter they had Elemis products. I was telling them about the new Elemis cleansing oil which I have been trying out – it’s GORGEOUS!
I had another pleasant surprise while I was there. It turns out one of the girls, Nicky, has read ‘Life’s a Beach and Then…’ and is currently reading ‘If He Really Loved Me…’. It was a little surreal to be having a conversation about people from my imagination as though they were real – well they are real to me. If you want more information about my books and how to order have a look at my webpage www.juliarobertsbook.co.uk
So, Tuesday was Chris and my 38th anniversary of living together. I had found the perfect card for him as he has a saying (slightly irritating if I’m honest) ‘always has been, always will be.’ Turns out the card was so perfect that he bought me the same one – we did have a laugh!
We couldn’t celebrate as I was still poorly and Chris was working but he did buy me the new Adele CD, 25. It was a really thoughtful present. Sophie had shown me a clip on YouTube of Adele being interviewed by James Cordon in a car. It was brilliant, with him singing along to songs with her – if you haven’t seen it you can watch it here.
They did a bit of a song that I didn’t recognise which instantly had me in tears. Sophie and Chris found out that it was on the new album, hence the present. It’s called, All I Ask, and is one of the best songs I’ve heard in ages.
The postman also brought me a nice surprise on Tuesday. I had applied to become a member of the Romantic Novelist’s Association a few weeks ago. As a self-published author, there are certain sales criteria you need to meet and, thanks to those of you who have bought my books, I met them – I’m so chuffed!
I had my new crown fitted on Wednesday and got home, after a three hour round trip to the dentist, to another lovely surprise. There was a tweet from the editor of the Windsor magazine with my picture on the front cover of the February edition! I knew I was going to be in the magazine because I had done an interview with her a couple of months ago but I had no idea I was going on the cover. No more hiding from the neighbours now – it gets delivered free to thousands of households in my area – crikey. I’ll try and post the article once it’s out.
Well, having missed the Beauty Bash, at least I’m back for Beauty Weekend (always assuming I survive the Lunchtime Show with Jackie Kabler today!) I have Beauty Discovery, with the Perricone TSV, and Philosophy tomorrow at 4 and 5pm respectively, and then an early start for me on Sunday. I’m on at 11am with another Beauty Discovery show, then 3pm Elemis and 4pm, New in Beauty. Hope you will be able to join me to find out about some of the new brands we are bringing you in 2016.
I must dash, but just a reminder that the third series of ‘Spotlight on Jewellery’ starts next Friday at 6pm, directly after Fashion on Friday featuring Together. The main brand will be Frank Usher but I’ll also be launching a new silver brand called, Emozioni … sounds like a perfect range for me as I am such an emotional soul! Watch out for me wearing some pieces this week.
Have a fab weekend, hopefully watching QVC.
