I have really enjoyed this week so far and we are already at Friday, albeit Friday the thirteenth. Actually I don't have a problem with Friday the thirteenth, probably as my Mum was born on Friday thirteenth August, and if she hadn't been born neither would I! Maybe you have more of an issue with it??
As I mentioned in last week's blog, Sunday was Sophie's birthday. Apparently, although I don't
remember, I had promised a theatre trip as a celebration, so on Sunday we were on the www looking at the various shows and trying to decide what to go and see. I was quite keen on 'The Jersey Boys', as I've heard great reports about it, but Sophie didn't seem too interested. She really wanted to go and see 'The Lion King' but for some reason it wasn't on on Monday, so, as she had enjoyed the films, we settled on 'Shrek the Musical'.
We had dinner first at a well known pizza chain, where Sophie had a code to get a free bottle of Prosecco for her birthday. It would have been nice, but that particular restaurant didn't have any so offered us all our drinks free instead!!! That was a good start to the evening (hic! – you know how low my alcohol tolerance levels are) followed by a really enjoyable show.
Shrek is on at The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane which is a really traditional theatre. I hadn't been there to watch a show since I went with my school to watch 'Gone With the Wind' in 1972!!!! I had been on the stage a few times though for auditions when I was a dancer.
The story was well told, the costumes eye-catching, and the performances from most of the cast were 100% considering it was a Monday night. Shrek was excellent and had some good comedic interaction with donkey. For me though, the two outstanding performances were Lord Farquad (I was wondering how they were going to portray a character of such short stature… ingenious, and possibly quite painful!) and the dragon.
Not only was the dragon well worked both on stage and when it 'flew' through the auditorium, but the vocal was outstanding – definitely the best vocal performance of the night. The only thing I was slightly disappointed with was the lack of any memorable songs, but don't let that put you off, it's definitely worth going to see.
We whet your appetite on QVC with lots of show tickets prior to Christmas – have any of you been yet, and what did you go and see? I am looking forward to going to see 'West Side Story' when it comes into London later in the year.
Tuesday night saw my beloved football team Crystal Palace win the first leg of their Carling Cup semi final against Cardiff. It's only a one goal advantage but I am hopeful of making it to the Wembley final as we have been quite good away from home this season… fingers crossed.
Wednesday saw the launch of Dazzling Druzy that so many of you commented on us wearing – if you ordered some I'd love to know what you think when you get it home. And today I'm working with the lovely Lulu celebrating her 4th Anniversary at QVC.
I hope you have had as enjoyable a week as me and have a great weekend. I'm not on air again until next Thursday, but if you want to find out what I am up to you can follow me on twitter @Julia RobertsQVC
