A garden makeover in minutes!

12

So, did the title of my latest blog capture your attention? And believe me when I say it’s not just a snappy headline – it’s true!

This Sunday (7th May) on QVC the Today’s Special Value is an Expandable Faux Ivy Trellis and it is just brilliant!

It’s one of those ideas that the minute you see it you just think “oh my word, I need one, two or five of those!” In essence it’s an ingenious way to cover unsightly parts of your garden or outside space and also makes you look very green-fingered (which in my case is rather handy!)

No more shall that ugly bit of wall, unsightly dustbin or rotting fence mar your view because it will be disguised and transformed into a wall of lush, healthy ivy!

I don’t have a garden but I do have a little balcony which gets the morning sun so I do use it often and as I write this blog I am in my living room looking onto the balcony so I do see it every day.

Here is what my balcony usually looks like:

So as you can see, neat and tidy with a few containers dotted around but hardly very inspiring. Here is what it looked like after playing around with the trellis in various ways:

What a difference, eh?! Within minutes the balcony looked much more decorative and lush and much more like a little haven. I really like how it not only covers the rather unsightly brick wall but it also disguised the rather functional-looking black railing (and disguises the peeling paint too!). Also, my balcony is on the second floor and when I am sunbathing, people below can see up through the railing so there is the added benefit of it giving you more privacy too.

One lovely surprise is how much I am enjoying if from the inside. Look at the view now from my kitchen window, where normally I looked out on brick and railings I now enjoy an abundance of lush greenery, it’s just wonderful!

I will be co-hosting the special 3 hour garden show this Sunday with Richard Jackson and the lovely Gill Gaunlett will be showing us this beautiful trellis. It’s a special version created to be a Today’s Special Value so my advice would be to snap it up quickly. Word has it my colleague Debbie Flint is planning on buying 10 for her retreat centre in Devon!

The one thing I have realised I need to order is Richard’s Easy Clean, I hadn’t realised how marked the patio stones were until I did these photos, eeek!

Thanks for reading my blog and can’t wait to show this to you in more detail on Sunday morning!

Big big hugs

Craig xx

    Hi Craig!

Wow this is amazing! I need to get these on my balcony. I wish I had green fingers….but every plant I bring onto my balcony dies! I am like you and live in London and I am on a main road. This trellis is perfect for me! Even I will struggle to turn this brown! If I do then I really will admit defeat!

I will be sure to tune in on Sunday!

Can I use this instead of fencing as next door fencing is down and my dogs can’t enjoy the garden as I don’t want them to end up in their garden.

HI Carmen, thanks so much for writing to me. No, the trellis cannot be used as a fence – it needs to be attached to something.

Hi Craig thank you for your lovely pics of the ivy. I have a brand new 6ft fence which looks nice but rather bland so will be purchasing a few of these as it’s over 45ft long down one side. What size are they going to be as I will need a few? Thanks again see you soon. Liz x

Hi Liz – thanks for your questions.
It would be fab for your bland fence!
      The measurements are as follows; Trellis (h x w): 1.3m x 30cm – 3m x 50cm (4.3ft x 11.8″ – 9.8ft x 19.7″)

      Hope this helps!
