I’m sure many of you will have tried detoxing before, as a way to cleanse your body after the excesses of Christmas and New Year, but, I must confess, I never have.
As a vegetarian, I have a pretty healthy diet most of the time and have never really felt the need to detox, but I have been persuaded otherwise by one of the guests I am working with on Monday at midday.
Funnily enough, I bought Christianne Wolff‘s first book around this time last year after Catherine Huntley had seen such spectacular results following her weight loss programme.
Although I tried a few of the recipes, I didn’t really feel inspired enough to do the whole program (including the detox) although I did find a lot of useful information about why certain foods are good or bad for your body. Instead, I followed a weight loss program of my own, and lost a stone in the run up to my 60th birthday last year. I was feeling pretty fit and healthy last summer and then ‘toegate’ happened!
You may remember I stubbed my toe really badly on a solid oak coffee table, and wasn’t able to wear shoes for six weeks. I was in quite a lot of pain, so even the thought of working out in the gym made me feel sick. The trouble is, once you get out of the habit of doing something, it’s really hard to get started again.
November morphed into December and, with the run up to Christmas, I never seemed to find time (or the inclination, if I’m honest) to get back on my pilates machine and my other pieces of fitness equipment – they lay dormant in the gym at the bottom of my garden.
With the New Year came a new determination to get back in the gym and try to eat a little more healthily but I knew I would have to try a little harder to shift the weight I have gained. So, as I’m working with Christianne on Monday, I decided to give her latest detox, ‘The Body Rescue Plan‘, a go and try to kickstart my healthy eating again.
I’m not going to lie, in the first few days it is really hard: finding things that don’t involve cooking with small quantities of oil or butter; having rice, bulgar or quinoa with curries; and not being able to start my day with porridge.
I’m not a massive fan of smoothies as a meal replacement either, particularly in the winter! But I will stick to it in the hope that, once I get into week two and will be permitted a few more of the things I’m used to, it will be easier.
Fortunately, ‘him indoors’ is doing it too, so that does make things a little more bearable. His favourite things (as mentioned before) are red wine, coffee, and cheese – none of which are permitted – so I keep reminding myself that he is probably struggling more than me.
It was pretty bad luck, though, to have the Godminster cheeses on the Lunchtime Show today and not be able to taste them… typical! Both Claire Sutton and I bought them for our other halves for Valentine’s Day last year.
Speaking of today’s Lunchtime Show, we had the new Beauty Product of the Month, the latest fragrance (Coconut Breeze) of Philip Kingsley’s Elasticizer in the one litre size with free P&P.
It only launched three days ago and already 4,000 have sold. If you haven’t seen it yet, do join me for a full hour of PK on Sunday at 3pm.
Well, I’m delighted to report that my football team, Crystal Palace, have finally had their first win under new manager Sam Allardyce, and have signed four new players in the January transfer window!
Hopefully this is a sign of better things to come, as we are currently still in the relegation zone. Thank goodness there are still three months of the season to go!
Just a reminder that, from today, Fashion on Friday will be repeated on the QVC Style Channel at 7pm so,if you always miss the first part of the show due to not being home from work in time, you’ve now got a second opportunity to see it. Today it is Isaac Mizrahi Live with the stylish Glen Campbell with some gorgeous pieces, I love the textures of this denim jumper waistcoat and it’s available in Black, Blue and Green.
Hope to see lots of you over the weekend and next week, and then I have a couple of weeks’ holiday from QVC. I need some sunshine, but have nothing booked yet… any last minute holiday ideas would be appreciated.
As always, check my website www.juliarobertsauthor.com for my latest book news – I published a new blog this week and announced you could win luxury chocolates for Valentine’s Day if you signup to my newsletter on there.
Have a great weekend,
