I don’t know how it happened that my blog has become as late as this…. it’s that “blink and …” moment! Rather like the one we are about to experience … yup the Christmas one, “blink and……it’ll be 2016”…AAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGHHH.
So let’s have a catchy uppy chatty blog!
Actually, when I write it down I realise quite how and why the days race away with me and it’s somewhat reassuring because, as always, there’s been a whole lot of things going on!
The loveliest week was had in my beloved Yorkshire Dales, what a delight, a much needed complete relaxation time for us all. It’s easy to feel shattered as the parents but oh my goodness how the children all slept and wound down too. Their pace of life is hectic and with the newness of Secondary School for Maddie comes earlier starts and longer walks to catch the train, more responsibility and certainly more homework! Is it any wonder we all get overtired, grumpier and less tolerant of one another, when we really ought to be MORE caring, MORE aware and generally nicer to one another to ease each other through the busier times….
So a week to breathe in the beautiful scenery that the cottage never fails to deliver (see my view each morning above) and sleep the deepest sleeps, as the village is velvety black at night, definitely put us back to the start line (so to speak) for the run up to the festivities ahead.
We had a perfect day at Bolton Abbey, the pumpkin trail meant fun for the children as we followed the glittering pumpkins suspended above us searching for the answers to the clues hidden and offered us all a chance to appreciate just how incredible a place it is. It was a gloriously sunny day and the autumnal colours surrounding us were spirit lifting and filled me with admiration for the superstar that is Mother Nature! I didn’t want it to end! Luckily my favourite picture I took was of the reflection in the water, which for once captured what I was actually seeing… now that rarely happens does it?
We just pootled around for the week, appreciating the time to just “be” instead of clock watching the whole day, enjoyed lots of Family Time, my favourite kind of time, and ate and drank lots… lovely!
If you’re anywhere near Ilkley the newly opened ‘Friends of Ham’ was fabulous if like us you’re a fan of nibbly bibbly bits! Incredible cheeses which just melted in the mouth and the finest charcuterie plates accompanied by unusual beers and ciders left me full to the brim and wishing for one to be opened in my village… York Dungeons suitably scared us all, great fun although a bit wiffy down there… I take my hat off to the actors who were fabulous in their less than glamorous surroundings!
I always feel renewed after a trip up North, though on this occasion it was cut short at both ends as we started with a celebration en route at my Aunt’s, a lovely time was had by all, and as the night progressed these place mats (face mats) came out and that was it, we were in fits of laughter… here’s my favourite, “something tells me now is the time to deal with this facial hair!!”
They are on my shopping list for Christmas Lunch.
Then of course the children wanted to join in Trick or Treating back at home with their friends, so we packed up a day early and managed to be home with enough time to turn into… this!
Maddie loved watching Lisa Potter Dixon’s tutorial and asked me to try and recreate it, I didn’t do too badly I reckon… Lisa is our very talented and gorgeous guest from Benefit and will be a familiar face this month for sure as our Beauty Pick of the Month is a mascara duo of Roller Lash and They’re Real. With a great saving plus free P&P for November I can highly recommend it to you as a straight lashed kinda girl, the eye lash curlers are gathering dust… honestly, it really is fabulous and to layer They’re Real on top just makes the lashes look knockout. It’s not waterproof, but by heck it stays on, and the cleansing? Well Elemis, Liz Earle and Radical have all coped just fine with it, a gentle emulsify and it’s done!
All is busy back at home now as Maddie has started the rehearsals for her Pantomime – Cinderella this year, plus Ballet and Modern exams looming mean extra classes to fit in. Joe is finally about to take a piano exam, I for one will be delighted as it’s been ages, so we found a new teacher and within a week he’s been booked in for the exam. Let’s hope he does well and we can race on to the next grade rather more swiftly!
Tom meanwhile has moved up from Scouts and become an Explorer and is loving his Tuesday nights, though it’s on till 10pm so Mummy and Daddy are less loving having to do the collection part, I guess we had better get used to it as they are all growing up and off here there and everywhere. I say to Dan we may as well enjoy our glass or two of red NOW as pretty soon we will become their taxi service good and proper!
Quick pour me another one….!!!!!!!
Hoping you are all super good and have been enjoying our ‘Countdowns to Christmas’ on QVC, those QVC parcels are beginning to trickle through at my house… if I can keep up momentum then Christmas can be the fun it’s meant to be. How lucky am I to be at work and be shopping simultaneously!!!
By the way… drum roll please….!!! I had to just make sure you all know that this Saturday will be the supreme Laura Geller TSV. A wonderfully elegant and luxurious collection of Laura’s innovative makeup, all packaged beautifully in a gift box. I’ve had a lovely couple of weeks ‘playing’ and have really enjoyed experiencing the sheer brilliance of her new Balance N Glow , a genius marriage of the best-selling and your absolute favourite… Balance and Brighten combined with the most loved highlighters, swirled and baked as only Laura knows how… Result? Luminous skin. Yes, even in November!
The colours of the lip liner in Tulip and the lip gloss Piazza Pink on top of Rouge Audrey lipstick are just lovely and there’s nothing in the collection that I would pass on because the colours wouldn’t work, from the really really good brow gel pencil to the stunning eyeshadow palette, the waterproof liner and Style Lash mascara , and correct me if I’m wrong but it is THE most incredible value.
I shall be chomping at the bit to show you at 11am and again at 2pm on Saturday. Watch out for the bare Claire! I’m getting in early for a ‘before’ shot for you… be prepared! I’m so thinking this will be a perfect Christmas present for all you Geller Girls and a perfect way to introduce you into the Geller Girls’ World.
I will be back with more speed next time, I PROMISE…
Lots of love till then,
