A belated ‘Happy Mother’s Day’!

Ok, so I'm about a week late but I hope all you Mums out there had an enjoyable day last Sunday! My day started quite early – 5.30 to be precise for two reasons. Firstly, Sophie was working an early shift at QVC so needed to be out of the house by 5.45, and secondly, the reason I needed to see her before work, is that Daniel and I had a flight to catch at 9.15 am.

Some of you will remember that Sophie and I did a road trip together a couple of months ago, so in the interest of fairness I owed Dan a bit of my time. He elected to come out to Spain as he hadn't been since the World Cup last June, so although I was out a couple of weeks ago I couldn't really refuse him.

I'm so glad we came, not only has he been fantastic company but we have also had the most glorious weather. I hadn't imagined getting in any swimming as the pool is not heated, but today I braved it and swam 70 lengths – it was just like the middle of summer!! I heard on the news that the weather in the UK has been good too, so I don't feel too guilty telling you about it.

At the airport Dan said I could choose a book as an extra little Mother's Day pressie and I've done so much lazing around I finished it this afternoon! Funny thing, and I had no idea when I selected it, but the majority of the story was set in Italy, near Vicenza, which we namecheck so often when doing our jewellery shows. They even mentioned a place called Marostica, where I did a report from, for QVC about 12 years ago…  small world!

Actually I haven't just been lazing, I've done a couple of Pilates workouts and the other day we decided to walk down a very steep set of steps on a cliffside. It was alright on the way down, but boy was it tough climbing back up the 280 steps… yes, I did count them!

Tomorrow we're meeting up with Jaynie Roberts from 'Slim n Lift' for dinner and then home on Saturday, thoroughly refreshed and ready to go.

Much love,
Julia xx

    Hi Julia
So glad you are having a great time. Its lovely when you have the kids to yourself for a wee while, even when they are big kids.
I wish you had taken me in your suitcase! We have had dreadful weather most of the week. Its been like November again, a few degrees warmer, but we had 4 inches of rain on tuesday or wednesday, and the wind has been just ridiculous. Trees blown down, and flooding everywhere. I thought i was on another planet when I heard all the presenters on every show talking about the gorgeous weather!!! So next time, if you see a wee face peaking out of your suitcase, its me!!!!!
Looking forward to seeing you back on our screens.
    Love Una x

Lol no wonder you’re refreshed Julia!! That’s some amount of trips recently! Not that any of us are in any way jealous!! That would be a major – yes I am extremely jealous!! I just keep thinking of our lovely Ali though and all those others out there who aren’t well and thinking – well it could be an awful lot worse. Weather not been too bad here which has been great to look at when been able to. Makes it feel like spring has sprung!
    Safe home again.

    Hi Kathy
Crikey you are well organised! I am the total opposite often known as ‘last minute Lulu’!! The 22nd September is my brothers birthday – on your wedding day he’ll be 58!!!!!
Spain was lovely, nice to spend some time with Daniel – we’re all so busy it’s often like ‘ships that pass in the night’ in our house! Hope it’s nice for you next month

    Hi Una
Just replied to you on my ‘marmite’ blog. My sister rang me last night ( as you know she is in south-west Scotland ) and she was bemoaning the weather! They are lambing at the moment so very little sleep and I’m sure a little bit of Spring sunshine would be very welcome!
Not sure about you sneaking into my suitcase – we only just got through without having to pay excess baggage – we were 2kg over the 20kg limit. I could do with those luggage weighing scales QVC sell!
    see you soon

    Hi again Susan,
I’m home safely – thanks for your good wishes. I’ll pass your love on to Ali when I speak with her later.
Hope this Spring weather continues, although the weather forecast didn’t look too promising this morning I’m afraid particularly if you are on the west side of the country.

    Hi Susan
The SE is not so great today – a bit grey and overcast with a hint of rain in the air. We do have the promise of a good weekend though!
    See you soon

    Hello Hefina
Thank you for your lovely comment – I’m looking forward to ‘seeing’ you all again! I won’t mention to Sophie that you have a staffi, otherwise your retirement may be interrupted by a ‘houseguest’ – she absolutely adores staffi’s!!
Yes, age is just a number, it’s amazing how ‘young’ a lot of us feel in our 50’s, 60’s, 70’s etc.!!
    Keep healthy and enjoy yourselves

    Hi Julia
I got these scales last year, what a godsend. Im sure they saved us a FORTUNE!!! I mean, whats 20kg, when we have our shoes and Elemis, and shoes, and Loccitane, and shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had 2 days of sunshine, last weekend was nice. I even managed to sit on the decking for an hour, lovely. Its amazing how a little bit of sunshine makes you feel so much better. Even if it is just 2 days. Was like November again by Tuesday though, so thats not so good!
Your poor sister. They must be exhausted. These little lambs are so funny. We were out yesterday, and passed a field with loads of them. Some of them looked like they were on springs, jumping over a log. I made my husband stop the car for a few minutes so we could watch. Just hilarious.
Im taking your word that age is just a number. Heading toward the point where I have a FIVE in my numbers in 2 weeks! Arrrrgggh!
    Take care Julia
    Love Una x

    Hi Julia
I always read your blogs but have posted a comment before. Just thought I had to say how much we are missing you on our TV was worried that you had left. The other QVC presenters are brilliant but its not quite the same without you. You bring glamour and your lovely personality to our screens. Lets hope we have a lovely summer so you won’t feel the need to go to Spain.
    Very best wishes
    from Janex

    Hello Una
Only just spotted this – I really do need some of those hanging scales, balancing the case on the bathroom scales is a joke!!!
I spoke to my sister on Sunday and she did sound a little stressed – mind you it was during the half time of the Celtic v Aberdeen game and at that point it was 0 – 0 and Aberdeen had had a man sent off! She also had her great grandson Leo visiting, so with the lambing as well no wonder she was stressed!!!! The lambs are so sweet aren’t they – sometimes she has to bottle feed them and then they follow her around, even into the house!!
TRUST ME Una, age IS just a number – I feel better now approaching 55 than I did at 40!!! – 50 is an achievement so celebrate in style!!

    Hello Jane
Thankyou – what lovely comments. As you can see I am back and have been busy already with lots of shows. I’m on again tonight and Thursday and Friday but am off over the Easter weekend.
I don’t tend to go to Spain too much in the Summer as it is a bit hot for me so I hope we get a lovely Summer here too – for all of us!

    Hi Julia,
I am hoping you can perhaps help me or even ask Alison some advice? You have answered me in the past and I have been so grateful that you took the time out of your busy schedule to respond. My Mum is 63 and has always had the most wonderful skin. Unfortunately she has suffered from ill health in recent years and has suddenly developed VERY deep wrinkles on her cheeks and face. They seemed to appear out of nowhere! This has left her so very depressed and self-conscious. I am wondering if you can recommend some form of anti-ageing product that may help her. I’m sure she’d try ANYTHING at the moment and it has left her feeling so down in the dumps. Thank you so much! Jennie xx
