A charitable yoga challenge

2

Just a quick few words this week, to tell you a little about a subject all women should be aware of, and also to give you early information about Thursday’s Today’s Special Value offer at QVC this week, something EVERYONE should know about!

On Saturday morning I braved the snow to join a few friends for a charity event – Salute for Alison.

Alison was the sister-in-law of a good friend of mine, and she was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer last year, and sadly died earlier this month.

She was a mother, grandmother, wife, sister, daughter, daughter in law, aunt and also friend to so many people. Alison worked for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People for 17 years – she touched and changed so many lives.

In April 2017 Alison felt ill and went to see her GP. First diagnosis – IBS. After blood tests Ali was rushed to hospital to discover that she had ovarian cancer. The cancer had silently and maliciously spread to her bowel, liver and pericardium. The shock of the news was devastating to everyone around her as she and her husband came to terms with this horrible truth. She faced her ordeal with bravery and determination. My friend Debs wanted to honour her by raising money for a relevant charity and also to help raise awareness of this less publicised type of cancer. Target Ovarian Cancer is the website to head to in order to educate yourself on the first signs of this disease, as well as being a source of huge support for anyone who has been diagnosed.

We were to complete 108 yoga sun salutations as a Salute for Alison, which would take about the same number of minutes. I’m fairly fit and practise yoga regularly but this number of repetitions of the same sequence of movements was challenging – although the hardest part was keeping count! We all managed it, though, and celebrated with a glass of prosecco!

Emu sandals

Then I drove home through a blizzard and arrived home to find my garden covered in snow and my latest QVC purchase, a pair of Emu summer sandals, at the front door. Unless I wear them with woolly socks, which would probably not be the best look, they may need to wait for their first outing, but I’m sure soon I’ll be wearing them all the time! Roll on warmer weather.

We raised over £1000 but Debs had organised similar events around the country and even abroad, so the total will be much higher than that. Check out Salute for Alison on the JustGiving website if you’re interested in helping – our group was Debs Cook.

On to brighter news – our TSV on Wednesday will feature one of Britain’s biggest and most successful brands in Dyson. Inventor and engineer Sir James Dyson started working on revolutionary cyclone technology in the late 1970s and today his award-winning designs include hand dryers, fans, heaters and the amazing hairdryer .
But it is the handheld cordless vacuum cleaner that we have at a brilliant price on Thursday. I bought the first model we ever sold, and it is still going strong many years later.

Dyson

We use it several times a day, all around the house. We have it mounted on the wall in the kitchen and that’s where it’s most useful – we have a large laminate floor that shows every bit of dirt and dust and a pitched wooden ceiling that is a wonderful home for spiders.

With the extension handle it is simple to reach the highest cobwebs, and I love how easy and fast it is to just grab the Dyson from the wall and make short work of any mess.

Reading the blurb on the box will give you an idea of how this quiet, lightweight and powerful machine could transform your regular cleaning. We offer our regular 30 day money back guarantee, which gives you a chance to really put it through its paces and discover how brilliant it is. But when you keep it, which I’m sure you will, that is followed up with a full two year Dyson guarantee for parts and labour, with a promise that they will come to you to fix any problem.

You’ll be amazed at the price we’ll be offering it at, but remember – it’s only for Thursday. Check it out at midnight, or with Simon and myself on the Morning Show at 9am, and then throughout the day. I think you’ll be impressed!

Take care and hope to see you soon

Congratulations on you yoga challenge Kathy. All women should be aware and take advantage of the screening offered by our NHS.
