I hope you survived the Arctic weather last week without too many trials and tribulations… I have to admit that I managed to escape it all with an extremely well-timed short break in Tenerife. Planned to help me recuperate from a particularly nasty bout of flu, it also meant I only saw the final, melting drifts of snow when we returned. The weather in the Canary Islands wasn’t exactly perfect – our airport was closed the day after we arrived due to high winds, and there were landslides caused by excessive rain. But it was always warm and we enjoyed a couple of gorgeous blue sky days, which – of course – was when I got the camera out for the photos here!
When I was working for BBC Holiday I filmed in Lanzarote, another volcanic island in the Canaries, but two years ago Olley and I chose Tenerife as our destination for a week’s holiday to recover after organising our daughter Rebecca’s wedding, followed six days later by entertaining 20 people at Christmas. I had no expectations – I was simply looking for a rest – but I was delighted at how stunning and diverse the island is.
The trees and flowers are tropically lush, the volcanic National Park has landscapes to rival America’s most spectacular and the buildings and architecture are appealing in a South American sort of way, rather than purely Spanish.
Olley and I sat in lovely little squares, drinking our beer, wine or coffee in friendly cafes. We watched the world slowly pass us by and listened to talented buskers – guitarists, singers and, unusually, a recorder player.
I enjoyed a couple of walks along the coastline from our apartment in Puerto de la Cruz in the north of the island, and one day we took off in a hire car to explore further afield, but we were generally happy to sit, read, breathe and make the most of having time to do nothing. A real luxury!
It was over all too soon, of course, but I’m never unhappy to be back at QVC. This week we have Today’s Special Value offers from big brands like Lulu Guinness, Links of London and Decleor, and on Wednesday we bring you some of the best haircare with the Percy & Reed 3-piece Dream Team collection.
Lately I’ve been using Philip Kingsley and Living Proof so it has been good to be reminded about how good the Percy & Reed range is. Paul Percival and Adam Reed spent decades working with the best in the business, jet-setting around the world, tending to the locks of the famous and glamorous, but they wanted what they had learned to be available to everyone, not just the A-listers and the fabulously wealthy. So they teamed up and opened a salon in London and then developed their own range. That’s what we have for you on QVC.
I usually opt for anything that promises fuller, thicker hair and more volume as mine is fine and can be flat, but sometimes I think my hair can have a tendency to look a little straw like. There are three options to choose from in the TSV:
Volumising – for limp, flat fine hair that lacks bounce
Moisturising – for dry, unruly, coarse, thick and unmanageable
Divine Shine – for all hair types that want a healthy, glossy finish
Each will contain a half litre each of shampoo and conditioner, and a full size of the award winning Wonderbalm, which I use every time I wash my hair for easier and longer lasting styling.
I decided to put the moisturising shampoo and conditioner to the test, and I think you can see a difference in my hair after just one use. The split ends are less obvious, the colour less brassy and overall, rather lovely, conditioned hair!
The price on Wednesday will be less than you’d normally pay for half the volume of the shampoo and conditioner, and you get the Wonderbalm in the kit too! So the perfect chance to treat your hair to something it hasn’t enjoyed before, or to take advantage of the Auto Delivery option if you already know you love Percy and Reed.
I’ll be at QVC on Wednesday not just with Percy & Reed but with my regular look at all that’s best in the QVC fashion department. Morning Style will be at 10am, featuring some great looks from Antthony Designs, Coco Bianco, MarlaWynne and Joe Browns alongside others. I hope to see you there!
