Wow! What a busy weekend at The Q! But fear not, We haven’t stopped there!
Rest-assured that we’ll keep on giving you plenty of gift ideas right up until our last shipping day, which is still a few weeks away yet.
I’m back with Brett from The Real Pie Company at Midnight this Thursday launching his exciting TSV for Friday: The 12-piece Best Of Real Pie Selection.
He has put together a fantastic collection providing a great way to experience some of their best sellers, many of which are award-winning.
Based in West Sussex, the company was started by an artisan butcher, who was unimpressed with pies he found on offer locally and started to make Real Pies to sell in the shop.
Things have moved on since those early days but Brett and his current team of only nine regular pie makers insist on sticking to their original ideals – their slogan “crammed to the crust” is certainly true. It’s not just about volume, it’s the quality of the steak, pork and chicken – Brett generally sources his beef from Ireland and pork often from Sussex, and chicken from East Anglia, as he says he tends to work with suppliers who he knows will deliver the best quality at a great price.
The art of the pie maker includes a great understanding of pastry and The Real Pie Co’s pastry is excellent – as I’ve often said on-air I’m not a big pastry fan and have been known to scoop out the contents of inferior brands and leave the pastry – I can honestly say I have never done this with A Real Pie Co pie – the pastry is part of the whole experience.
As you’ll see our TSV is not just about pies – there are two Sussex pasties and two sausage rolls in the hamper – all freshly baked and delivered to your door chilled – ready to eat, re-heat, freeze or refrigerate – the choice is yours. Brett always advises re-heating in an oven and pulls a face when I say in my haste I used the microwave! It’s true that to get the best experience you should re-heat in an oven.
Each pie/sausage roll or pasty are individually wrapped – all the necessary info is on the packaging – which helps knowing what lies beneath the light crusty pastry.

Brett is a regular on Andi Peters’ food fest, and Andi and I are back together on Monday – now we’ve retrieved him from the Australian Jungle.
