As I write this it looks as if a heatwave is imminent – it’s about time we had a little bit of decent sunny weather, although I don’t think this summer has been terrible, just maybe not quite as good as we had hoped for! My garden has quite liked the weather over the past few weeks though. I have a border of pink lilies and blue agapanthus running along one side of the patio and down some steps and it’s looking very lovely right now. It’s the little things that bring a smile, isn’t it? Planting that turns out exactly as I had imagined always makes me happy!
To completely change the subject now, let’s talk hair! A couple of weeks ago I suddenly felt deeply bored with mine – it has been the same short, layered style for a while now and I got fed up of waiting for it to grow.
“You don’t have to wait,” said the colourist at my hair salon as she touched up my roots. “Why not have some extensions?”
“Why not indeed?” I thought. And so I did! I had extensions once before, about ten years ago, and loved them, so it wasn’t a new experience for me, but I’m loving having the extra length again. They are real hair, bonded in so they should last about five months, and not super long, not even shoulder length. But those extra few inches have been enough to make me feel different and I’m very happy with it. The only issue now is making sure I use appropriate shampoos and conditioners – I can’t use anything with silicone in it as that could affect the bonds. Luckily we sell several ranges at QVC that work well, including Lulu’s range, Nexxus and Color Wow, so it’s not a problem.
It’s nice having a slightly different look as August is Fashion Month at QVC and there’s lots of gorgeous new fashion to try out with my new hair! I’ve already bought two pairs of printed trousers, these from Chelsea Muse and these fabulous palazzos from Coco Bianco and I suspect they won’t be my only purchases this month. We have some fab new brands coming on board too, and some new shows – I thoroughly enjoyed presenting the two-hour premiere of The Style List at the start of the month. (Here’s a shot of me with cameraman Ian, pretending to be catwalk models just before the show started!).
Outside work I’m frantically editing my second novel ahead of publication day on the 20th of October. The audiobook version of my first novel The Dead Dog Day was released by Audible in July which was very exciting – it’s so wonderful to hear it being brought to life by fabulous narrator Zara Ramm (if you watch CBBC you may know her as the mother in “Grandpa in My Pocket”!). And this week my publisher told me that Audible also want the new book (hence the frantic editing – they need the manuscript next week so they can start recording it!). So with all that, and the final few weeks of training for my big 100km charity event at the end of August, it’s all been a bit busy recently. Not complaining though, it’s all good.
I hope you’re having a wonderful summer, and if not I hope things turn around for you very soon. Let me know what you’re up to – you can leave a comment below this blog, or say hi on Twitter (I’m @jackiekabler).
