Well, summer is finally here – phew, what a scorcher! I quite like the sunshine, as long as I’m slathered in factor 50-plus Ultrasun, but it’s tough keeping up with my training for my 100km charity challenge in this heat. I’m doing up to 30 miles at a time at the moment and getting up at 5am on my days off to get out there and get the miles done before the sun gets too hot. Only about five weeks to go now though until the big weekend in August – bring it on!
The sunshine and showers have been amazing for my garden though. We have a big wildlife pond with a gunnera growing next to it, and I just wanted to share a couple of pictures with you, because I can’t believe how fast this plant grows. At the end of March it was ankle height (you have to cut it back to the ground every autumn) – the second picture was taken last week, so just three and a half months later, and it’s now taller than me! It’s just the best plant ever. It has a really prehistoric feel about it, I love it.
The garden has a bit of a pink theme going on now too – I’m not really a pink person but I’m quite liking this colour scheme this year for some reason. It’s really cheerful and some of the pink flowers I’ve planted are so vibrant. I particularly love my hydrangea – those great big showy blooms are absolutely fabulous.
Which leads me neatly on to my first trip to the cinema in about seven years, to see the Absolutely Fabulous movie. I like watching films, but I’m not good at sitting still for two or three hours at a time so I generally just watch them at home so I can do the ironing or paint my nails at the same time! But it was my friend Sophie’s birthday so we did a girlie trip – five of us, with champagne and nibbles to accompany the movie. It’s so much fun – I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was nice to spot QVC regulars Lulu, Joan Collins and Kelly Hoppen among the cast too!
Then at the weekend I had a brilliant trip to Dublin to catch up with family. It was my mum’s birthday last week so ten of us (sisters, nephew, nieces, husbands and boyfriends!) got together to celebrate. It was the first time I had been out with all three of my sisters together in THREE YEARS – ridiculous, but we all live so far apart and it’s really hard to co-ordinate all being in the same place (and even the same country!) at the same time. Suffice it to say it was very loud, with lots of laughter and shrieking, tons of gossip and a lot of gentle (or not so gentle) ribbing. One of my favourite lines of the day came from my sister Sarah to sister Loraine: “I like those sunglasses. They’re good because I can’t see so much of your face…”
I do miss seeing my sisters regularly, but my colleague Chloe Everton is like my naughty little sister at work. Did you see what she did to my high stool on a recent Lunchtime Show….grrrrr! If you missed it, here’s the clip:
Finally a quick look at a brilliant new brand coming to QVC on the 27th of this month. It’s called Bkr, and it’s bringing us gorgeous water bottles (or juice bottles, or whatever-you-choose-to-fill-them-with bottles!) made of glass with a colourful, funky silicone sleeve. We all know how important good hydration is for our health and our skin, and these drinking bottles just look so good as well as being very practical.
They come in nine different colours – the one in my photo is called Baby Heart and will only be available at QVC. Look out for these during our shows over the next few weeks as lots of us presenters will be using them instead of our usual boring water glasses!
Have a fabulous week!
