Just a quick blog today – I promised a review of the Fitbit I’ve been trying out, ahead of it being QVC’s Today’s Special Value offer this coming Sunday 5th June. I’d heard loads of hype about this little fitness tracking gadget for ages but never tried one – and I have to confess, I was a little reluctant at first, partly because I wasn’t sure if it would be just too complicated to bother with.
However, I now see how people can get quite addicted – it’s fab! I found it so simple to use – you just need a smart phone or computer, onto which you download a free app which links up with the Fitbit and sets it up for you, and then keeps a record of your progress. I’m not very tech-talented but it’s really easy, honestly! The Fitbit itself looks like a really cool watch/bangle, and you just tap the little screen to see the time, the number of steps you’ve taken so far today, the distance you’ve travelled, the number of calories you’ve burned and the total number of minutes you’ve been active.
I was amazed to see that some days I do five or six miles just running around the building at work between shows. The recommended number of steps we should be taking each day is 10,000, and by early afternoon on a day which included a training session for the charity event I’m doing this summer I had already done over 30,000 steps which was astounding – no wonder my feet ached! (See photo.)
But of course not every day is that active, and I did find it very motivational to see the step count. It certainly made me take the stairs instead of the lift at work and other little things like that, on days when I didn’t have time to do any formal exercise. If you have a sedentary job, or just generally want to become more active, I thoroughly recommend it. You can compete with yourself (or your friends!) and build that step count – you even get an email every week if you want one, summarising your activity for the week so you can build on that too.
Don’t get one yet though…wait until Sunday and get it at a great reduced price! And if you do decide to go for it, I’d love to hear how you get on, so let me know.
