Bye bye ‘Blue Monday’, hello Beauty Weekend!

Well, we are finally over the hump of mid-January and hurtling toward a (hopefully) fabulous February!

I’m not sure if you heard of the ‘Blue Monday’ phenomenon but it this past Monday was said to be the most depressing day of the year. I’m not sure I agree, but I can understand the reasoning behind it. Christmas is long gone – the sparkle, the lights, the excitement. The bank balance has a big Christmas-shaped dent in it. The enthusiasm with which New Year’s Resolutions began earnestly has now dulled and what was, at the start of January, an exciting challenge has become a heavy ball and chain.

Well, no doubt we all have something to bemoan, but whether we complain or not “what will be will be” so I try my best to be a glass-half-full lass. Don’t get me wrong, I have dark days like the best of ‘em. I’m just saying we don’t have to subscribe to the train of thought that we must be glum because it’s January.

Most days when I’m not at QVC I am still working on my house. I’ve previously mentioned Steve, my wonderful friend and builder, who has helped me through the project with his know-how and practical help. He has taught me so much. This weekend just gone we had planned to do some more plumbing but, instead, finished off (well, almost finished) the carpentry in the kitchen. It’s amazing how one job can end up taking three times as long as you originally planned. Always one step forward and three back, but the kitchen is finally almost there and that feels great!

While we worked it was snowing outside! I absolutely adore the snow and it took every shred of resistance to keep going and not down tools in favour of snow angels and sliding down the hill at the local park. It was just so beautiful. It even made the piles of building rubbish in my garden look pretty, haha!

This building lark has played havoc with my fingernails, though. They’re all quite short now but that doesn’t stop me having fun with all the new beauty products at QVC! I am very excited to be launching a brand new range of nail products called Little Ondine. This is a complete revolution (no, really, it is!) in the world of nail polish.

Firstly, it’s made from natural and organic ingredients. Yeah, I know! Not what you expect from nail polish, is it? Secondly, unlike traditional polishes it doesn’t smell… you really don’t believe me, yet, do you? It doesn’t sound possible, does it?

Well, this bit is pretty amazing, too, you don’t need polish remover! You just peel it off the nails with no damage and dehydration to the nails. Wow. I honestly cannot wait for 1pm on Saturday when we meet our expert guest, Helene Panzarino, who will be treating us to a full hour of Little Ondine. I didn’t even need to use a base and top coat and look how shiny it is. The no-smell part is unbelievable but true!

I’ve been able to try some brilliant new products in advance of this weekend, beauty all weekend long. I’m on between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday and then Sunday 9am – 11am, before coming back on at noon, when I’ll be looking at favourites such as Decleor and bareMinerals as well as lots of new beauty in Sunday’s 9am show. A whole hour of new products!

One to look out for, in particular, is Fillerina. You may have seen it being written about already in the beauty press. I read a remarkable article in the Daily Mail online where the journalist had not only trialled the products but had treated them with some scepticism, so had the results measured clinically (and independently) before and after at a London skin laboratory. Even they were astounded by the results.

I’ve also had the pleasure of trying a 10-day course of Pure Gold Collagen. These are little bottles or ‘shots’ of collagen, which you drink one of per day in order to get a collagen boost from the inside out. They’re actually really tasty, too! I’ve lost count of the rave reviews I’ve seen on these.

If you are feeling a bit low or that the excesses of last month have caught up with how you’re looking and feeling, this weekend is going to be a real tonic for you. Make sure you tune in and you’ll also see two great Today’s Special Value offers. Saturday’s is from Perricone and on Sunday it’s Revitalash. I got some for my best friend, Mandy, for Christmas as she always complains about her lashes and she’s noticed a difference already!

Hope you’re having a happy January.

Love, Catherine

Hello Catherine, Just watching you on the Northern Nights show and love, love, love, the colour of your hair. You do remind me of a younger version of myself and bless you i feel that you are often guilty of putting yourself down. I am terrible at starting a conversation with “i’m sorry but” and have allowed people to walk all over me in the past and treat me quite horribly. It is taking a great deal of confidence and effort on my part but i am slowly beginning to like and love myself again. You are a beautiful, wonderful, intelligent and caring young woman and i enjoy watching the shows that you present but would like to see you being kinder to yourself on air. You are one of my favourite presenters on QVC, sending you lot’s of love and hugs my dear, Sharon xx

    Dear Sharon,

Thank you so much for taking time to write such a heartfelt message. I totally understand what you mean. I am my own harshest critic and you’re right, I do need to be a bit kinder to myself at times.

Every now and then I try to remind myself to do this but you’ve spurred me on again. It’s a lifetime’s work, isn’t it?

Well done to you for keeping at it. You’ve inspired me! Thanks also for the hair comments. Its getting healthier by the day!

    Lots of love,

    Catherine xxx
