I hope 2017 is treating everyone well? At the bottom of this blog you’ll find the giveaway I promised in my last blog, so please enter, it’s a great prize!
But first, my news. I’ve been plotting and planning for the year ahead this week. In January I always like to have some sort of framework in place for the months to come, even if life does often get in the way and change things! I have a few nice trips in the diary now though, but also two rather more challenging events….oh dear.
Some of you may remember that back in August last year I did a 100km event called the South Coast Challenge, in aid of Headway, the brain injury charity. (My sister Deborah died from a brain injury in 2010). It was the hardest physical thing I have ever done – 100km is 62 miles, so nearly two and a half marathons non-stop, with no rest and just short stops for food. (There’s a video of my day and night – it took just over 24 hours – on a previous blog here).
At the finish line, utterly broken, I vowed to never, EVER do anything like that again. But I think endurance events must be like childbirth – afterwards you forget the pain and only remember the good bits. So I’ve signed up for another one. Well, two events actually – a 56km one in May as a sort of “warm up”, and another 100km event in September. And this time, I’m doing them just for me, and not for charity – I don’t think it’s fair to ask people to sponsor me two years running, but I want to beat the time I did the last 100km in, and build up my endurance. That’s because in 2018 there’s something even bigger I’d like to do for charity, which will need a lot more training, and the training I do this year will help a lot. I must be mad, but hey ho, life is short, eh? I’m probably fitter now at 50 than I’ve ever been in my life, and I want to continue to challenge myself. Let me know if you’re taking on any physical challenges in 2017, I’d love to hear about them.
Right – two more things to tell you! I have a big giveaway to brighten up January as I said, but first I wanted to mention the fabulous Today’s Special Value offer from Lakeland which you’ll see on Sunday 15th January. It’s the Dry Soon Heated Airer, a brilliant and economical clothes dryer which is perfect for right now when you can’t always put your clothes out on the washing line to dry, or if like me you don’t have a washing line! It’s much cheaper than a tumble dryer to run (less than 6p an hour), has three tiers so loads of space, and comes with a cover and a delicates bag too. I tried one out at home a while ago and loved it. It’ll be at a great price for one day only so if you’ve seen this on air before and fancied getting one, Sunday’s the day!
There’s a set of two tote bags and three foldaway bags from Camouflage Company, a Vercella Vita slimming bodysuit, one of the lovely Yankee Candles hat boxes full of votive candles in seasonal fragrances, and selection of goodies from SBC. To enter, just answer the following question:
Which 100km challenge did I complete last August?
A) North Coast Challenge
B) South Coast Challenge
C) East Coast Challenge
Leave your answer as a comment under this blog (you’ll have to give your email address but don’t worry, it won’t be published) and the winner will be chosen at random. The competition closes at midday on Wednesday 18th January, and standard terms and conditions apply. Good luck and have a great week!
