- A LOOK BACK TO A FAB YEAR
- BEST bloopers, best guest, biggest laugh and much more
- Plus – how did you spend New Year – did a stranger cross YOUR threshold??? : – )
– And – cinema review – the new Tom Cruise movie – ‘Jack Reacher’
Well there have been some amazing shows and events during my year – both on and off QVC. There are FAAAAR too many to list, but off the top of my head I’ve just included some highlights. What were yours? Specifically, did you do anything you’d never done before?
One thing I’d never done before – funnily enough – is co-present a show with Pipa – and present one we did, last weekend, in a Beauty Clearance show. Good fun it was too.
Well back in February, I had one of my fave moments of 2012 – a TiFFT to top most others. Yes along with my presenter pal Craig, I went horse-riding for the very first time! It was during the freezing snowy weather, but Craigy and I had a great time attempting to a) stay on, and b) make our horses walk then trot. One day I’ll do some more – that’s a promise to myself!
WHAT WAS YOUR FAVOURITE THING YOU DID FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER IN 2012?
Oh I had some wonderful getaways this year too! One of my best years ever for it. Including visiting our Veronese guest Ginetta with my lovely pal Craigy in July – it was 37 degrees – and we did some wonderful sightseeing too.
I also had three amazing trips to LA – also very warm and collected some great new pics and marvellous memories – just the ticket for these dark dismal winter days!
Met Antthony the designer out there for lunch and a gossip – one of my bestest guests and nicest people in the world! (clearance Antthony fashions on Wed 16th 8pm btw with Catherine – when I’ll be at a Gary Barlow concert!!)
Yes Craig featured in a lot of my memorable moments early in 2012! I have to say that Laugh of the Year goes to my Medieval night with Craig, Lee Hohbein and Justine Balmer in April as an early 50th birthday celebration. Craig dressed up as a joker and made my night – my month – and my year!
As far as laughs go, it was one of the best – he is a nutter, and a superstar! Although it is a close run thing considering some of the enjoyable fun times I’ve had, especially with my (publicity shy) new pal Mr back of my tandem (!), but since he can’t be featured, Craig’s night out wins! Haha!
TOP TELLY MOMENT
In a summer jam packed full with amazing moments, there’s obviously a tonne to choose from. But seeing the Queen – our Queen – take part in a Daniel Craig Bond skit was one of the top telly moments of all time, let alone of last year!
Just a shame we didn’t see her dive from a helicopter for real! Lol!
BEST MOVING EVENT
Really moving, wonderful camaraderie and excellent entertainment – that was the Breast Cancer Care Ball – in the company of many of my fab presenter friends from QVC, all supporting our lovely Ali K – a night to remember for sure!
FAVOURITE FAMILY EVENTS
This year my lovely son and daughter made me extra proud once more – Lauren for being such a lovely person and bringing me some wonderful times – including with her new little puppy – my grandpog Baloo! Yes I became a ‘grandpogmother’! Haha! Lovely little cocker spaniel puppy-dog (pog).
And whilst Brad was excelling at his job as a project manager (he’s, in fact, about to become project director at his property development company bless him – proud mummy!) he was also not only moving into his own first flat, but also arranging his wedding to the lovely Kari – this October there’ll be tears galore somewhere near Dorking for sure! Lol.
And now for some on-air/QVC moments…
Music guests included Mick Hucknall (you can watch his interview here) and of course the lovely Mel C. And congrats to Mel and the gang for the Christmas number one).
Do go to last week’s blog for more highlights from the Saturday Night series, including the actual ‘best of’ video! And don’t forget to join Ali K and myself for its replacement this weekend – see below.
Fave product of the year
Ok so this is an easy one! Discovered the Red Carpet manicure home gel system. Do it once, and it lasts, super shiny and everything, up to two to three weeks!
And of course, massively proud of my sister Linda joining us on air as the RCM guest!
Fave show of the year
Here he is with me in one of the earlier shows – just before he started causing mayhem on several of the Saturday nights in the run up to Xmas.
John’s ‘Him’ range gave us a good excuse to have him on – but he managed to muscle in on many of the other products each show too – from bedding to chocolates! Very funny. Do catch the previous blogs for the full lowdown on some of the above moments in 2012 – I tried my hardest to do a weekly one and to keep you all informed!
And for your delight, here’s something that helps make QVC very special – a highlights video of some of our best music bits of the year.
NOW YOU TELL ME
So – what bit of QVC did you like the best last year? Or what did you do in 2012 for the very first time, that made you so proud? Or what would you LIKE to do in 2013?
I’ve got that cruise up the Nile on my list still – if you recall, regulars, Mrs pharaoh-lover here never made it to the long-awaited holiday last year due to it being THE weekend of the riots and cancelled flights to Egypt! And of course, finishing my first novel and now my second one too – currently in embryonic script form.
What was YOUR favourite part of the year – on QVC or elsewhere? Let me know by leaving a comment below. And if you’ve not left me any comments on any of my blogs this year but you do read them regularly, I’d especially like to hear from you – so do leave me one! Info below on how to do it!
Had a great new year at a mate's for dinner and played some funny games – including ‘Never Ever’ – where you have to see if you’re the only one ‘never ever’ to have done something, e.g. my first one was ‘been to new york’ (it’s on my list, along with Egypt!). Then you collect one of seven matchsticks you all start the game with. Last one in wins!
I’d ‘never ever’ had a Xmas card from none other than Prince Charles! Personally signed as well, cos of our host’s charity work. So cool I thought I’d include it as a snippet for you to see!
Considering it’s the time for resolving to make changes, I thought this little saying, doing the rounds this week, might be pertinent. Very true! And see below for the first funny of 2013 – and the final dressed up doggy for the time being – just to make you smile!
WATCH – oo choices!!! Couple of things, then. First, went to cinema to see the new Jack Reacher movie – starring Tom Cruise as the (admittedly 6’4”) Lee Child hero brought to life on the big screen – to great effect.
Now the plot is a simple thriller, with twist after twist – some that shout their arrival in advance, and others you don’t spot so easily. I can’t give much away, but the adaptation of Lee’s ‘One Shot’ is no doubt the spring board to a series of sequels.
But don’t forget, Reacher fans, ‘The Affair’ – where the ex military cop’s back story was revealed – is kind of a prequel. Lee launched it in Sept 2011 on QVC, with me interviewing him (one of my proudest QVC moments!)
I did enjoy ‘Jack Reacher’, the movie, mainly by allowing myself to overlook several glaring holes in the plot – huge. Why? Cos I loved Tom’s performance – I wanted more of it at the end, and will definitely see the next one! So for that reason, and some effective tension-packed moments, I’m giving it an 8 out of ten.
Other things I’ve loved this week (been having a bit of a catch up!) – whilst putting away Xmas decs, I watched Knocked Up – featuring one of my favourite movie confrontations of all time (with the security guard and the irate ‘old’ dolly bird – if you’ve seen it, you’ll know just what I mean. SOOO unpredictable!) And a great script, so 8.25 out of ten from me ( go here to watch the trailer…)
And one of my fave Xmas pressies this year – DVD of Stephen Hawking’s Universe – specially the episode about Time Travel. Loved the chat about Quantum Soup – was watching it whilst finishing off this blog in fact! Very educational and a must if you’re a bit geeky on the quiet, like I am!
EAT – talking of soup – here’s a little ‘Eat’ Footnote, since I haven’t had one for a while – and it’s just to say that one of my biggest highlights this year was going macrobiotic with my food – what a great eating plan THIS is if you want to not only lose weight, but keep it off and help a whole host of ailments into the bargain.
Cooked lots of really healthy meals this year, and changed my eating habits for good. Longest I’ve ever stayed on a restrictive plan I must say!
Lost quite a lot since this pic too and all going well – even stayed about the same weight over Xmas! Yay! Doesn’t mean you can’t have treats though.
In fact, fave treat recipe of the year, from Marlene Watson Tara’s book Macrobiotics for all Seasons is the apple and walnut muffins – which I baked in our presenter bake off early in the year!
Kathy won, I came last after Simon and Craigy, but it was another fun first for me! (Go here to find out more about it and watch the funny outtakes video!)
And finally, a little look ahead to what’s on QVC!
– * Saturday Jan 5th at 8pm – join me and Ali K for ‘Anything Goes’! Our new Saturday night ‘must-see’! Next week it’ll be Dale and Anne. This week, amongst other things, we’ll have a chance to ‘play producer’ and vote for what product we put on first, as well as a craft challenge with Stephanie Weightman!
And also our new Today’s Special Value that will have launched with me on Friday night – the Arnova tablet – that’s just HUGE! Thirteen inches in size! On 4 pay too! Don’t miss it!
I’ll be back on Monday night at midnight with a new SBC Today’s Special Value body care bargain (see pic above!). Also – watch out for Fashion Clearance Day all day on Wednesday including Cashmasoft 'and do join me Sunday afternoon (13th) at 4pm including – if not sold out – an amazing value Decleor TSV inc hands and top anti ageing products!'
And do follow me on Twitter or send me a friend request or a ‘like’ on my Facebook page to keep up with my little behind the scenes insider updates that I tweet regularly – like three of this week’s one time onlys! (info below).
Well that’s it for another week. Am sure a lot of New Year’s resolutions will feature in your comments to me below – perhaps even ‘keep new year’s resolutions’! Haha! Or perhaps – ‘leave some comments on Debbie’s weekly blogs’! Joking! Actually, I‘m not – do leave me one – either resolutions, or maybe what your most memorable moment of 2012 was… I look forward to reading them!
Best wishes and Happy New Year!
