It was my birthday earlier this week and, in celebration of that and the impending next visit of Marjolein Brugman, we are running a competition for the next few days for you to win an AeroPilates 4240 three-corded "Pure" Reformer with pull-up bar, which will normally be priced at £363 on the QVC website but is currently on Introductory Offer at £330. More of that later.
Thanks so much to those of you who sent me birthday cards and if you sent me an address I will thank you personally. In these days of texts and tweets, which are so easy and instant, but also much appreciated, it was lovely to receive such pretty cards to decorate my bookcase!
Tuesday was a beautiful sunny day spent with Chris, Daniel (fortunately Tuesday is his day off from Crystal Palace) and my mum, who had come to visit us at our new house for the first time since we moved in January, and then joined by Sophie in the evening when she had finished work.
I was spoiled with lots of little thoughtful gifts, my favourite being this mug from Chris. How appropriate … Go Away I'm Writing … I think I am a little antisocial when I'm tapping madly at the computer keys!!! … although this wall plaque was a close second. Sometimes it's good to have a little visual reminder of how lucky I am to have a caring family.
My mum bought me this beautiful begonia and enjoyed helping me select the perfect spot for it in the garden. She also gave me the white cherry bush she has been nurturing for me for the last couple of months and a honeysuckle … all planted and watered now with Richard Jackson's Flower Power. As an extra treat she gave me a T light holder, perfect for all my Yankee Candles, perforated to light up with my name … just one small problem, I had opened the exact same present from Poppy and Wilfie moments before! Great minds think alike.
My main present is the promise of a trip to the West End to see 'Les Miserables' next time we all have an evening off together – can't wait!
I wonder if any of you managed to catch my show with Wilnelia Forsyth yesterday? She is as beautiful as her stunning bags, which clearly were very popular as the show had to end ten minutes early due to sell-outs. Her husband, Bruce, who had driven her into QVC the previous day for her appearance on Kathy's Morning Style show, was unable to accompany her yesterday but he did send me this little message … how thoughtful of him, and how great that he is supporting his wife's venture on QVC.
Yesterday also saw the World Cup in Brazil kick-off. Everyone seems very downbeat about England's chances in this tournament but, patriotic as ever, I'm quietly optimistic. We have a lot of talented, fearless youngsters and if they can gel with the likes of Gerrard and Rooney we could just be the dark horses … I still think Ashley Cole should have been selected though!
Anyone know what the mascot is for this World Cup? I only found out a week or so ago when I posted a picture of Striker, the mascot from 1994, on Twitter. Here's a clue, it's not very cuddly! There is also another very important football tournament going on at the moment. Yesterday my son Daniel flew to Sweden with two teams of Crystal Palace Academy players, so good luck to them too.
Well, you've all been very patient reading my blog (unless you just skipped down to this point!) so finally we get to the COMPETITION. In celebration of my birthday, my new gym (which is being painted a lovely shade of pearl grey as I write) and the fact that Marjolein will be back on QVC next Thursday, although I am away so unfortunately will miss seeing her, she has very generously donated an AeroPilates 4240 three-corded "Pure" Reformer, with pull-up bar, power cord and three instructional DVDs as a competition prize.
As you probably know I am a massive fan of Pilates and am very thankful for the day Marjolein introduced me to it. This method of exercise, although currently 'trendy', has been around since the 1920s when it was devised by Joseph Pilates. My question for you to win the competition prize is:
In which year was Joseph Pilates born?
Please post your answers as comments on this blog post by midnight on Wednesday 18th June so that the randomly selected winner can be announced live on Marjolein's first show on Thursday (see the full terms and conditions here). Wishing you all the best of luck. Must dash now as I am on early today, 1pm, with the gorgeous Mally.
Have a lovely weekend much love, Julia xx
